I'm surprised that the RIAA is not up in arms over pandora.com. It satisfies all my music needs. I was tempted to buy The Essential Weird Al collection at Walmart last night, but 15 bucks for a cd is too much. So I just created a Weird AL station on pandora for free!

Yeah if you like hearing random songs by an artist mixed in with songs that are sometimes related, it's great. If you actually like listening to songs you like or these ancent relics called albums, it sucks.

Pandora is great for stuff you like, you just have to figure out how to make the radio station properly. you can make custom play lists with Slacker Premium which I think is $50 a year

I don't see why the parent would be praising his son's "resourcefulness" in burning music from library cds.
If his son really likes the music, why not purchase the songs off Amazon or buy the cd?
People who engage in bad behaviour rarely admit to it. They usually rationalize it in some way.

What about audio books?

I would argue for some audiobooks it's impossible to listen to a 30hr+ audiobook (and many are this long) when you only have a 2 week check out period and there are people on the hold list ahead of you.
Most people I know listen to audiobooks for about an hour at a time and often copy it to their MP3 player from the library either because of time restrictions or no longer having a portable CD player.

I know why people do it I'm just wondering if the group feels it's legal and/or understandable and/or legitimate.

if you look at a lot of the big acts from the 1980's who are still around today, a lotof them had a dry spell in the late 1980's and 1990's. a lot of boomers had kids growing up at that time and no time for music. kids are grown up now so you can blow money to go see KISS or Springsteen
same thing now. i know some people will steal no matter what. a lot of others have kids and spending money on music will have to wait

The cd is already becoming the razor and things like concerts the blades. Music companies are testing free streaming around the world

I am not following. Concerts now have to have 5 acts like the Gillette Fusion (when two worked just fine) and be really really expensive?

The studio recordings are now going to be the loss leader along with music videos and the money will be made on concerts, video games and other licensing.
