Anyone else listen to these guys? I've loved 'em for a few years. One of the best bands currently playing right now, IMO. Their new single - "I and Love and You" - is starting to get some play and is an incredible song.

Re: The Avett Brothers

Oddly enough, I first found out about them because Seth Avett did a (incredible) cover of Nicole Atkin's 'The Way It Is', which can be found on YouTube.

I finally saw them last week at the Outside Lands Music Festival, and they were definitely one of the highlights. A bit more traditional than I expected, only the last the song they played was more pop than folk. But I loved them, and definitely looking forward to new Rick Rubin-produced album.

I guess I also have to go back and discover their older material as well... so much music, so little time!

I've just started getting into their music. If you find the Live Concerts from NPR's All Things Considered podcast, they have an hour long set of theirs from the Newport Folk Festival. (8/2) I've listened to it several times already.

Big fan and their new album, while slickly produced and having a stronger emphasis on piano and drums (almost to a Ben Folds Five level), is quite good. It grabbed me a lot quicker than Emotionalism, which I think is brilliant.

I've only heard three songs from the new album (I and Love and You, Kick Drum Heart, and Laundry Room). Can't wait to hear the rest. Emotionalism might be my favorite album of the decade. "Weight of Lies" gives me chills no matter how many times I hear it.

Emotionalism is up there for me in terms of albums of the decade, but I would most definitely put "Weight of Lies" up as one of the top 5 songs of the decade. It gives me chills as well.

The new album is great. One of the best albums of the year. Only thing i have heard that compares is Andrew Bird's new album.

Re: The Avett Brothers

I've been pluggin' the album for a while here. It's weird, it's one of those albums upon first listen I didn't like, b/c it's so different from their others, but upon repeat listenings I've grown to love it. Right now my #2 album of the year & that's coming from a guy that has listened to a ridiculous amount of new music this year.

Saw the band Wednesday night. One of the greatest live shows I've ever seen.

"Murder in the city" gets me every single time I listen to it. These guys are incredible. I regret not seeing them when they came through town recently.

Re: The Avett Brothers

I saw them in late '07 in NY (Webster Hall) when Emotionalism was the current CD, and it was like a house party. Everyone knew every word to most of the songs, and I thought the floor was going to collapse when everyone jumped along with the band. It was astounding! I really got interested in them when I saw them on their TV debut on Conan that year (They played "Paranoia in B-Flat Major"), and I just knew I was in for a treat when I got to their show! Scott Avett must have had to change banjos on every song from such aggressive playing. I wasn't sure what to make of the screaming, but they are very dedicated to their act and they make excitement out of everything in the show.

And Bob Crawford the stand-up bass player shook my hand at the end of the set!
