What are the best CDs of all time?

Maybe it had great lyrics, or haunting vocals, or revolutionary melodies, but 99.99% of the world agrees it's a great CD. What are they? Pretty pictures welcomed

99.99% of the world would never agree on something that is mostly personal taste.

I agree that's a pretty broad question there.

Well I think most people would agree Thriller would fit in this thread.

The best selling album of all time? That would be the closest you would get to 99.99%. But in reality, the percentage of people (on earth) that even know that album exsists is probably less than 20%.

I think we can all agree that "enter the 36 chambers" would be in everyone's top 10

Unlikely. Popularity does not necessarily equal greatness.
Not by a longshot.

If I were to say Ramones Rocket To Russia was one of the "best" albums of all time (which I believe it is) that would simply be my opinion. And quite frankly I don't really care what the rest of the world thinks. I like it. If you don't, that's just fine.

Popularity and record sales are rarely an accurate gauge when it comes to determining "greatness".

I have hundreds of CDs and don't see the need to have Thriller among them.

And by the way, it's albums. The CD is the format.

Dark Side of the Moon was on the Billboard Top 200 for like 14 years straight.

And it's one of the best albums of all time to boot!

Re: What are the best CDs of all time?

hard to narrow down lists like this...I mean we would probbaly have varied opinions on just picking the best Beatles album. ( I am partial to Sgt.Pepper myself)

anyways to throw out a few more that i own and stil listen to years later..in no particular order

1) London Calling--the Clash
2) U2--Josua Tree
3) Born to Run--Bruce
4) sgt peppers--Beatles
5) Purple Rain--Prince
6) Dylan(take yout pick from a half a dozen that could be here)
7) Hotel California--Eagles
8) Led Zepplin--Led Zeppllin
9) The Doors--The Doors

I wanted to skip over anything on vinyl and not on CD because it'd be harder to come across, so I wanted to stick to albums that were on the CD format

I'm not sure if this is a serious list or not? If I was actually paid to, I wouldn't listen to Garth Brooks or Shania Twain. The Eagles, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, all put me to sleep. And I've always loated Pink Floyd. So I can't agree these are great CDs, even objectively. For instance, I've never been a Beatles fan at all, but I can agree that The Beatles is a great album.

I know - unfortunately you're going to miss out on classics like Freddy's Greatest Hits.
