the 7digital site also has a ton of albums for $4. I think every Beck album including the deluxe Odelay is included in the sale.

Everything in the $4 sale seems to have been marked down to $2. If you're willing to search around, there's a ton of stuff included in the sale that isn't listed on their sale page -- The Who and The Rolling Stones have most of their discography on sale at $2 a pop, for example.

So the site is legit and not one of those odd Russian music sites? Does it have a downloader like Lala and Amazon or just a Save As?

I ended up biting. After listening to the Ojos de Brujo album i had to pick it up. Good stuff.
edit: Yeah i was happy to use Paypal and not have my CC linked to yet another site. I also kind of dig not having to install yet another downloader.

Yep. The BBC has some coverage about HMV buying a 50% stake in 7Digital and how they're partners with a bunch of media companies. They're UK based and apparently just opened a US site pretty recently, which probably is why they're not as well-known as some of the other sites.
You get to choose between using their downloader app or just downloading a regular .ZIP file.

This site is going to make me broke! I did a little investigating since I couldn't find anything online for what artists are in the $2 sale. Most of the artists signed to certain labels seem to be included. Here are links to wikipedia artist lists of those labels that seem to be included;

Best Of Stereophonics - Decade In The Sun is now part of 7digital's $2 Advent Calendar sale, and it's a great introduction to the band. It's nice to see the "Handbags and Gladrags" cover on there, which I don't believe was on any prior U.S. release. (It is on my U.K. release of Just Enough Education to Perform, however.) Highly recommended.

I had 5 albums in my cart that I checked out at $2 this morning at 7Digital. If I had known it was only one day, I would have stocked up sooner. Got some good deals though.

I noticed last night most of the $2 albums went up in price at 7Digital. Had several more I wanted but waited too long. Still managed to get a lot of albums to fill some holes in my music collection. Hopefully this is not the last $2 sale.

The Stereophonics album I linked above is still showing up at $2, even though it has disappeared from the Advent calendar. Hurry.

I don't know how the licensing all breaks down on MP3 sales, but I can't imagine selling albums at $2 and not losing money on it.

Re: Amazon MP3 Album DOTD thread (part 3)
Say, for example, the label takes 50% of whatever the sale price is. And let's say it costs $0.70 to process and distribute an album order. At $5, the label would get $2.50, leaving the store with $1.80 after costs. At $2, the label would get $1, leaving the store with $0.30 after costs.
Note that this is all conjecture. Labels may have set fees instead of percentages, and I have no idea how much it costs to distribute music. I'm just noting that it's possible.

Hmmmm....I just went to 7digital and logged into my account. I put a ton of those $2 albums in my cart and they still show up as $2 each. In fact, I just checked out and was charged $2 each
