Ultravox reforms!

I know there aren't many fans in the US, but my all-time favorite band, in a move that no one expected to ever happen, has reformed. They haven't played live together since Live Aid in 1985.

Perhaps best known for the worldwide hit "Vienna", the group was led by Midge Ure, one of the greatest voices on the planet.

The "Return to Eden" tour takes place in England and Scotland of April, 2009. Dates are at this link.

I'm buying my airfare now!

Vienna:

The Voice (Live), including the coolest drum quartet ever:

Sweet, I love the song "Hiroshima Mon Amour" as sung by... oh, nevermind. Just kidding... I like Ultra with Midge. Should be fun. Had no idea they hadn't performed together since Live Aid.

This thread reminded me to look up "Dancing with Tears in my Eyes" on youtube. That song and video is one that always stuck in my head from the 80's.

I have the "Rewind" DVD of Midge Ure's 2002 tour, where he played a lot of Ultravox stuff---sounded pretty great on that one. The tour would be fun, but if they were getting back together to record new songs, then I'd REALLY be psyched.

I think it's a fairly safe bet that once they clear out some of the cobwebs that they'll release at least a new song or two, hopefully a new album. Keep in mind that these guys had a fairly unpleasant breakup and have not been on speaking terms for 20 years. For them to all bury the hatchet and reform is monumental.

I remember being into their greatest hits album for about 2 months when I worked at Hughes Aircraft in the late 80's.

god, I'd give anything to see them! (anything except how much it would cost to travel from middle america to the UK)... they scheduled a tour of the US when the "Lament" album was released but the tour was scrapped due to low album sales... hopefully they'll film one of these 14 dates & release a dvd (over there of course - not here - so we'll get use out of our all region players!)... I had the pleasure of meeting Midge in the late 80's and again in the early 90's... very friendly guy... and at the time he said there was no chance they'd ever reunite... I suppose time and $ offers ended up changing things... they recently reissued 2 cds deluxe sets for "Vienna" and "Rage in Eden" which are great!

Of course there is. But John Foxx has toured several times in the past few years, and released quite a few albums of new material. Midge-led Ultravox was the commercially successful incarnation of the group, and certainly the most viable for a successful comeback effort.

That said, I sure would like to see them bring out Foxx for a song or two at the London gig (since I have second row tickets).

reissues have just been announced for "Quartet" and "Monument"... quartet (produced by beatles producer george martin) will be expanded to be a 2 cd set with b-sides & remixes & live songs just like the previously expanded versions of "Vienna" and "Rage In Eden" while monument will be a 1 cd 1 dvd edition with the 6 track video out for the first time ever on dvd! these come out in the UK around the end of february...

and still a best of cd & dvd is planned to coincide around the time of the tour in april although track listing & release date hasn't been announced

They've announced plans to film the April 30th show at the London Roundhouse for a DVD release. Picked up tickets for that one too.

Re: Ultravox reforms!

Just got the DVD of last year's Return To Eden show at London's Roundhouse (for which I had tickets, but sadly could not get to). What a fantastic DVD and show. The DTS audio is amazing, perhaps the best I've ever heard on a concert DVD. And the camera angles and pacing are first-rate, as well. Got chills several times during the show. For a bunch of guys at or about 60, they really show how it's done. Highly recommended.

Not a big fan but surprising to hear this. I guess money might of changed opinions. Now if Japan would only reunite (I know won't ever happen)

Re: Ultravox reforms!

I too watched the Roundhouse live dvd last weekend... enjoyed it very much... a few surprising track selections (who'd have thought they'd play "Your Name Has Slipped My Mind Again"?)...

and now they're touring again (UK area only, of course) and this time swearing it's the last go around...

set list from the current tour looks almost the exact same except in a different order... they did add "White China" into the set...
