Looks like this (shit) list was based more on sales than anything else.

4. The College Dropout Kanye West (2004)

Did Kanye write up this list?? Jesus H. Christ....

Any list that puts Kanye West 10 spots ahead of The Cure's Disintegration is absolutely stricken from the records, in my mind.

wow...I mean...wow.. that is one BAD list.

#1 was a good pick, but having such a good pick at #1 and then going to #2 to see that it was Lauren Hill..I mean, I actually laughed out loud. That is just pure insanity.
Plus they put In Rainbows above The Bends or Ok Computer,, stupid. stupid stupid list.

I swear, why cant someone get a list that isnt nutty.

Yeah they had Rain Dogs on it, thats good, but should have been in Top 5. The whole list though.. just.. Ughhhh.

no Buena Vista Social Club - shame on you EW - shame!

or two electronic acts that defined the genre: The Chemical Brothers: Dig Your Own Hole and Orbital: In Sides.

and giving some props to a band that made very little dent on this side of the pond but released two outstanding albums: Manic Street Preachers: 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours' and 'Everything Must Go'

let alone Pulp - whose song (and lyrics) Common People from off of 'Different Class' puts many bands/artists on that list to shame.

Wow, just wow.

The exclusion of Michael Jackson's Thriller alone completely invalidates this list with respect to any criteria that you can think of: quality, influence, popularity, sales, you name it.

What would you say if I told you that the album was released late in 1982, and would be ineligible for this list?

I own (or had, at one point, owned) the following:
(it's a lot more than I would've thought)

1. Purple Rain Prince and the Revolution (1984)
3. Achtung Baby U2 (1991)
8. Graceland Paul Simon (1986)
10. In Rainbows Radiohead (2007)
14. Disintegration The Cure (1989)
16. Rain Dogs Tom Waits (1985)
17. Odelay Beck (1996)
26. Time Out of Mind Bob Dylan (1997)
27. Funeral Arcade Fire (2004)
30. Appetite for Destruction Guns N' Roses (1987)
32. Life's Rich Pageant R.E.M. (1985)
38. Raising Hell Run-DMC (1986)
41. Legend Bob Marley and the Wailers (1984)
43. Paul's Boutique Beastie Boys (1989)
45. If You're Feeling Sinister Belle and Sebastian (1996)
48. American IV: The Man Comes Around Johnny Cash (2002)
52. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Spoon (2007)
53. King of America Elvis Costello (1986)
55. It Takes a Nation of Millions... Public Enemy (1988)
56. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Wilco (2002)
58. Surfer Rosa The Pixies (1988)
60. Crooked Rain Crooked Rain Pavement (1994)
61. Paid in Full Eric B. & Rakim (1987)
62. OK Computer Radiohead (1997)
63. The Joshua Tree U2 (1987)
65. Elephant The White Stripes (2003)
68. Wrecking Ball Emmylou Harris (1995)
72. 1984 Van Halen (1984)
73. The Queen is Dead Smiths (1986)
78. Vs. Pearl Jam (1991)
79. Let It Be The Replacements (1984)
82. Grace Jeff Buckley (1994)
84. Low-Life New Order (1985)
94. Synchronicity The Police (1983)
96. Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea PJ Harvey (2000)

BTW, Legend is a best-of compilation, consisting mostly of songs from before the date cut-off, so it should be ineligible. If that's eligible, why not put the Zeppelin box set that came out in 1990 on the list?

I agree...although I prefer "The Holy Bible" over the other two Manic Street Preacher albums listed. Also the exclusion of Massive Attack (and note I made earlier) is a travesty.

I agree, where is Beatles 1 in that case?

Nirvana Unplugged is No. 11 and Nevermind isn't included!

No Sonic Youth?

A Bob Marley compilation of music recorded before 1983?

yeah, this list sucks.

Good call, and I'd also add "The Holy Bible" to that list.

I'd also add MSP's last album 'Send Away the Tigers' to that list - I really think it's just as good as those other albums - probably their tightest record.

yes The Holy Bible is edgier and more aggressive than the other two albums I mentioned but these albums from the Manics, including 'Send Away the Tigers' (which it's only flaw is that its too short IMO, throw on the great b-sides and you get a longer album ) demonstrate how great a band they truly are.

God, these things always suck incredibly. How many people would participate if we did a DVDTalk list? I'm thinking we could do a thread where everyone posts their top 50 albums of the last 25 years. Weighted points could then be assigned with something like:

#50 - #41 - 1 pt each
#40 - #31 - 1.25 pts each
#30 - #21 - 1.5 pts each
#20 - #11 - 1.75 pts each
#10 - #5 - 2 pts each
#5 - #1 - 2.25 pts each

After everyone had compiled their lists, points would be assigned to albums based on how people ranked them and we'd have a top 100. Or, if someone has a better methodology to suggest, we could use that. If people are interested, I'll start the thread.

That sounds like fun, another way to tabulate would be to give #1 50 points and then each sucessive number one less point until #50 gets just one point, that way people's top albums count for a lot more.
