are they repeating some DOTD's? I notice that Prince one was the DOTD a couple days ago, and the Madonna Hard Candy was DOTD for two days last week

They normally change the price on the DOTD's a day or 2 in advance, hence Jay G and I being able to finbd a crapload of deals early and then them becoming the DOTD

X&Y by Coldplay - $1.99

To coincide with their new album tomorrow?

I vote to make this a sticky as well!

Yeah, I don't list any DOTDs, just deals that I find on the site. Often those deals become DOTDs a few days later.

If you see a post by Dave listing or quoting a deal and placing a date after it, that's the DOTD for that date.

Knowing what's a DOTD is helpful, since it places an end date on the deal. For example, know that Prince's Greatest Hits album is the DOTD for Monday lets you know that you only have until tonight to take advantage of that particular deal.

Damn, beat me to it. ;)

I'm guessing that Coldplay deal will be the DOTD either tomorrow or the day after. They did a similar deal with Weezer's Pinkerton the week the new Weezer album came out.

I think it's a good strategy. You're going to get a lot of people impulse buying the old album and perhaps becoming fans and quickly buying the new album. Conversely, people who like the new album may also buy the older album as well.

Warm deal for me today:
Street Survivors [Deluxe Edition] by Lynyrd Skynyrd - $9.49

For only 50 cents more than the standard mp3 album you get an additional 15 tracks, consisting of a complete alternate version of the album recorded before the version originally released, plus additional tracks. It's also about half off the Amazon price for the CD version.

nothingfails 06-16-08 03:38 PM

^ Alanis' Greatest Hits was also put on sale the day of her latest was released as well. I do think it's smart to put catalog titles for an artist on sale when the new one comes out since it does attract impulse buys from someone who wants the new album to go "you know, I never got around the getting the previous album" and pick that up as well. Catalog sales usually spike for most artists on the week of a new release.

DaveWadding 06-17-08 02:12 AM

We have TWO special deals today!

Something funky with the reviews on this one. The reviews are all referencing "Compounds + Elements: An Introduction to All Saints Records" which has tracks by Brian Eno and many other ambient artist. That album also happens to be $2.99, but on CD.

But this is not that album. I'm not clear on exactly what "The Elements - Various Artists" is, but it's clear that it's not Brian Eno related. So don't jump on this deal just because you see Eno's name in the reviews.

If anyone has never listened to Daft Punk, this album and the 2007 live album are great starting points.

Jay G. 06-18-08 07:24 AM

Wow. Good week to be a (new) Coldplay fan.

Greatest Hits [Explicit] by The Notorious B.I.G. - $4.99

Cardiff Giant11 06-18-08 03:58 PM

Yeah I'm not a huge coldplay fan but I do have A Rush of Blood to the Head and that is a steal at 1.99

nothingfails 06-18-08 04:01 PM

yea, if you're looking to get into Coldplay. A Rush Of Blood To The Head is THE album to get, it's one of the best albums of the decade so far IMO

GenPion 06-18-08 04:38 PM

X+Y is still $1.99. So people can get both it and A Rush of Blood to the Head for $4. That's awesome!

frozpog 06-18-08 04:39 PM

man..im glad i came upon this forum..sweet deals.

there was an article on it on www.hitsdailydouble.com

AMAZON GARAGE SALE: Amazon.com has launched a pair of sales programs, “Daily Deals” and “Friday Five,” that offer DRM-free MP3 downloads for as low as 99 cents. To mark today’s release of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, which they are selling for $8.99, this week’s “Daily Deals” will offer the band’s catalog for $1.99 each, including X&Y (today), A Rush of Blood to the Head (Wednesday) and Parachutes (Thursday), with Brothers and Sisters available for 99 cents (Friday). This week’s “Friday Five” offers five albums for $5 apiece, including the Rolling Stones’ Let It Bleed, Frank Sinatra’s The Essential Frank Sinatra, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss’ Raising Sand, Linkin Park’s Minutes to Midnight and Andrea Bocelli’s Vivere-The Best of. Is that cheap enough for you? (6/17p)

Draven6593 06-18-08 05:04 PM

Very glad I didn't purchase "Rush" while at Best Buy. I usually prefer to have a hard copy, but I can't skip that album for 1.99.

Decker 06-18-08 06:48 PM

Oooh, I never got Parachutes. I'm going to assume it's worth at least $1.99. Do people here like it?

xmiyux 06-18-08 06:51 PM

That Robert Plant & Alison Kraus album is really good.

It's worth the 1.99 - "Spies" and "Trouble" are a couple of my personal favorite Coldplay songs.

In a rather sad note, itunes has the entire Coldplay catalog on sale as well right now -- for $7.99 each. Amazon has to be losing money selling album downloads this cheap. I guess that's how you break into a fairly closed market. Still, I wonder how much these deals are costing them.

frozpog 06-19-08 03:12 PM

another note from hitsdailydouble.com

THEY CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE: Amazon has the entire Coldplay catalog on sale for $1.99 a pop—excluding Viva La Vida, of course. The sale features radical short-term discounts on selected titles. At the tail end of the week, five titles are being collectively discounted to $5 as part of the "Friday Fives" campaign. Other albums will be dropped as low as 99 cents, depending on the title and day. One skeptical executive quipped to Digital Music News that Amazon is now dabbling with "Russian prices," a reference to the now-defunct AllofMP3 and other deep-discount sites. (6/19a)
