FWIW, I'm a hardcore Apple fan (Mac user since 1999, iPods, etc) but I think Amazon MP3 blows iTunes away for price, lack of DRM, and having seemingly just as good of a selection. I rarely buy from iTunes now. |
Itunes also has discount deals on albums too. I'm looking at it now. Lot of albums less than $7 or $9 listed in one section. A few of them are DRM-free.

Plus $7.99 is about as low as iTunes ever goes unless the album has less than 8 songs. $7.99-8.99 is about average for Amazon, and all the albums posted in this thread are either cheaper than that or have more than 20 songs.

out of curiosity, I am a chart geek so I am interested in knowing, does Soundscan count Amazon mp3 sales? Since it seems like iTunes is the only digital chart they ever count.
5/31 (Saturday): Heroes by David Bowie - $3.99
Even for those iTunes songs that are DRM free, they're still in AAC format which my car's MP3 CD player can't read so I prefer MP3 even if the compression isn't quite as good.
6/1 (Sunday): Billie's Best by Billie Holiday - $3.99
6/2 (Monday): Mothership by Led Zeppelin - $4.99
Absolutely the best deal I've seen so far. Good thing I have the Complete Zep boxset otherwise I'd be so in. |
