Downloading now. I really hope this style of releasing music catches on (not the free part, but cutting out the record company)

LivingINClip 05-06-08 10:31 AM

Anyone else going to the concerts?
I'll be at the Lexington, KY and the Knoxville, TN one (August 12th - my bday!).

So far I'm digging this album more than With Teeth or Year Zero. It's got a more aggressive feel than those two. This is a bit more in line with the kind of output I expect from Trent. I've only spun it a few times, but I like what I hear. I'll still buy the physical CD once it comes out.

I'm planning on going to their show on 9/6 at The Forum.

I am into total NIN revival now and have been cranking Pretty Hate Machine and Broken the last day.

The topic should be changed to include the album name :)

So far, I really dig it. Heavy. Experimental. Soft. NIN. It's great. Let's just hope that there ISN'T a $300 version of this. I'll gladly buy the physical CD and Vinyl, though.

I've been doing a lot of reading on Creative Commons. Sounds pretty forward-thinking.

Just a heads-up - the limited edition version of The Slip is out today. It's got the album on CD plus a DVD of live performances of 5 tracks from the album. It also comes with 3 stickers and a nice booklet - as usual with NIN packaging, a lot of thought was put into it. My one gripe is that it's a digipak. I managed to put a little tear in it already trying to get the booklet out of the little center pocket. :(

FYI, Best Buy had a lot of copies when I picked mine up about half an hour ago.

Picking mine up after work. Loved the album when I downloaded it months ago. Don't mind giving Trent some money since this is a damn fine record.

My copy is on the way from Amazon. 13.98 - not bad.

Although I may be wrong (and hope I am), I believe that the DVD only includes performances of 5 songs from the album.

I picked up my copy after work, but haven't watched it yet. The sticker on the outside says only 5 songs. Kind of disappointed that it's not every song, as I read earlier.

Oops, sorry for the misinformation. I was going off of memory and I thought I had read that videos for all the songs were on there. I'll edit my post.

Not sure if it was part of Trent's plan to let us grab it for free because we would end up buying it..........but that's exactly what I did - this may just be my favorite all time NIN album (And yes, that would include The Fragile, Downward Spiral, etc...) but I still haven't heard Year Zero or Ghosts yet (fuck man, this dude can't stop making music!!!).

Fucking love it - tracks 8 & 9 are insane and this is just a solid, perfectly well rounded album. Nice little bonus dvd as well that sounds excellent.

It's funny you say that because for longtime NIN fans it's been killer to wait for a new album.

1989 - Pretty Hate Machine

1992 - Broken (EP)

1994 - The Downward Spiral

1999 - The Fragile

2005 - With Teeth

2007 - Year Zero

2008 - Ghosts I-IV

2008 - The Slip

There's some pretty big time gaps in there. After With Teeth came out I wasn't expecting to have another album until 2010. Being a NIN fan the last couple of years has been very cool and rewarding.

I'll always own the real CD given the chance when it comes to NIN, but I also thought about how his practices have been generating goodwill which likely equals more sales.

I appreciate being able to download the FLAC's in advance of the pressing of the CD.

And you should hear Year Zero right now. It's the best thing he's done since The Fragile IMO.

LivingINClip 08-13-08 10:20 AM

Just got back from seeing them last night. Amazing concert to be honest. Even the Year Zero stuff translates real well.

mndtrp 08-13-08 10:52 PM

I'm hoping to get The Great Destroyer live, but they've been alternating that with another Year Zero song. I guess I'll find out in a few weeks.
