Two hours and the big announcement.
I'll be staying up to see what it is.

WooT!

Aegean2007 05-05-08 02:10 AM

It's up! A brand-new, completely free album!!!

Friggin' A.

I love ya', Trent. Free album and then let the people decide if they want to buy it.

Not even... "(thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one's on me)"

Took about 5 minutes to get the download link. Comes in 320 mp3, FLAC, M4A lossless, and WAV 24/96 high-def audio (which clocks in at 1.2gb).... all seeded through torrents (except for the MP3s).

bunkaroo 05-05-08 02:24 AM

Waiting on the email link to download. Just cannot believe we're getting another new vocal record only a year after Year Zero. Awesome.

bunkaroo 05-05-08 02:33 AM

Looks like you have to use a torrent program to get any version except the high quality MP3's. I don't feel like screwing around with that to get the FLAC so I'll wait until the FLAC is available somewhere else and just get the MP3's.

LivingINClip 05-05-08 02:38 AM

This album is brutal. A huge departure from With Teeth and Year Zero, in fact, I love this one already.

Amazing how busy Trent has been since he left the label. We've got With Teeth, Beside you In Time (DVD), Ghosts , Year Zero, a remix of Year Zero and now The Slip.

CKMorpheus 05-05-08 02:40 AM

I'm downloading the high def WAV files so I can hear them on my sound system. What's the best way to play them and retain the entire fidelity? Burn them to an audio CD? Play the WAV files straight to my DVD player (which plays WAV files and does 24/96 playback)?

LivingINClip 05-05-08 03:01 AM

Alright.

'Head Down' rocks more than any song the best two albums.

Rubix 05-05-08 03:08 AM

i don't understand why the 24/96 wavs weren't encoded to flac also.

LivingINClip 05-05-08 03:25 AM

I'd almost be A-OK with him getting rid of 'HURT' on this tour and playing 'Lights in the Sky'. It's just a beautiful song.

db27 05-05-08 07:53 AM

kick ass

Shagrath 05-05-08 08:03 AM

Trent is the fucking man! Just finished downloading this and am going to give it a listen later today. I'll definitely pick up the physical version in July as well, just like I did for Ghosts.

The new album pretty much rocks.

THANKS TRENT!

bunkaroo 05-05-08 09:18 AM

So are people getting the FLAC via torrent OK? Maybe I was too early last night because it was crawling.

TripWire 05-05-08 10:44 AM

oh man this shit is angry, good times...Head Down is my favorite so far. Sounds like getting Robin Fink back in the mix put some edge back into the band.

bunkaroo 05-05-08 01:08 PM

Heard this once so far. Some good stuff but to me it is not as good a Year Zero or even With Teeth.

I love that Trent is getting stuff out this fast, but I fear it may be at the expense of the usual sonic complexity I've come to enjoy from NIN. Then again, he was probably due for a stripped-down balls out record, which is what this sounds like to me.

I'll still be buying the actual CD when it comes out.

Wick 05-05-08 05:43 PM

I really like the new album. I'll most-likely buy it when it's released.

Spaceknight 05-05-08 07:32 PM

While downloading this I was poking around the online NIN store and saw that they have copies of Still. That's the acoustic album that came with the limited All The Could Have Been, so it's been out of print for a long long time. If you're a NIN fan and have never heard this, trust me, it's worth every penny and then some.

Listening to the FLAC version on my Sennheisers... a world of difference from the MP3s! Head Down is chilling!

I went to the site to get this and was shocked about the delivery price. I live in the UK. Get this, the CD costs $9.99 while delivery is an additional $17.95!
JEBUS CHRIST!
That is stupid!

vedderstapp 05-06-08 08:11 AM

I love that NIN is giving this away for free, but its a long LONG way off the heights of Year Zero and With Teeth (which I realise have their detractors, but I loved) in my opinion. There's a couple of good songs - Discipline and Head Down are excellent, but they could do so much better...

LivingINClip 05-06-08 10:20 AM

See, for some reason I never connected with Year Zero (minus Zero-Sum) and With Teeth (minus Sunspots). This album on the other hand, I just love. Maybe it's the fact we get some more instrumental stuff, something that was severely lacking from the previous two albums. Or maybe it's just the harsher sound of songs like Head Down and Letting You.
