Let's see... production style of "High n Dry" (one of the best rock albums evah!) and no ballads? I'm sold! Certainly will be checking this one out, even though I haven't bought a Leppard album since "Pyromania".

PRESS RELEASE: Def Leppard's "NINE LIVES" Featuring Tim McGraw to Run on All NBA Game Broadcasts on ABC through Rest of Season and Into Playoffs
Iconic rockers Def Leppard and Tim McGraw will add another notch to their belts of legendary rock anthems when "NINE LIVES"-the highly anticipated first single off Def Leppard's new studio album, "SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE" -becomes the featured track in a special opening segment recorded for NBA games airing on ABC. The open will be featured on game broadcasts on ABC through the rest of the season and on ABC and ESPN into the playoffs.
Exclusive new video footage was recently shot for the special opening segment with both artists in Los Angeles last week. The video will debut this Sunday, March 9th on ABC as the lead-in to the NBA game between the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns at 3:30 p.m. ET.
"The relationship for NBA on ABC to feature the pairing of 2 iconic artist with Def Leppard and Tim McGraw is the perfect evolution of the music associated with NBA broadcast that has included Black Eyed Peas, Rob Thomas, Destiny's Child and Tom Petty" -- David Saltz, Executive Producer for Music at ABC
First news of Dancing with the Stars, Jimmy Kimmel and now this... I think their management change a couple years ago was a good idea. They're definitely getting more visibility lately.

I heard 5 of the new songs yesterday on Rockline, a syndicated radio show. All i can say is we're in for a treat on April 29th... DL is back! "Go" is one of, if not the, heaviest song they've done.

Not quite... they average about 5,000-10,000 for their last few years touring. They played at a Minor League baseball field here in Minnesota 2 years ago with Bryan Adams and had about 3500 IF they were lucky. They already have been playing State Fairs... which means you are about done.
They had a good run with Journey but I would guess most were there to see Journey.

FTR, Poison still sells about 12,000 per show here every summer
More FTR, I do public relations for an 8,000-seat outdoor venue in the city. Def Leppard and Poison won't even look at us--we're too small.

That does not mean they average 15,000-20,000
So what? They have an ego and don't want to lower themselves to a limited area... they would rather play a 15,000 seater to half capacity then play a 8,000 sellout. LOTS of bands do that. It makes them think they still can play in larger venues.
Look at their attendance records they have been not been close to that average since the 80's.

5,000...15,000 - who cares?
How many bands 25 years into their careers are still around? How many of those can sell 1,000 tickets, let alone 5,000?
I'd kill to be in a band selling 5,000 tickets per show. Most musicians would.
More on topic, I'm digging "Nine Lives," and I hope the rest of the album is that good. If it is, it will be the best Leppard album since Pyromania!

Wow, new Whitesnake album this week this week, and Def Leppard next! Feel like I did a Rip Van Winkle in reverse, and traveled 21 years back in time.
From what little I've heard, both look to be the best work either band has done in ages. I just hope they truly are. I'm still getting 'em either way.

I am a fan of the band but he was being misleading about what they are actually getting for attendance.
I will give this new CD a chance but have been really disappointed by their last few so it is hard to get excited about this lousy title as well.

Def Leppard was my first concert, so aside from the music, there's that other bond as well.
I'll never forget my first time listening to Slang. (Keep in mind, I'd loved everything they'd done up to this point.) I remember thinking "WTF is this crap?". I shelved it (even though I went to see them on the Slang tour) and didn't give it another shot for a long time. Listened a second time and thought "Yep, still crap." Only my great musical awakening around 2000 made me give it one more shot. And at that point I realized "You know, this isn't typical Leps, but this is pretty darned good."
That has been my opinion of them since: if you want old school Def Leppard, you need to listen to the old stuff or go see them in concert (although last year's debacle made me reconsider that idea, but I guess it was just that Joe's voice was shot. I'll probably give 'em another shot, although probably lawn seats at best.) or buy the ANY of their versions of the GH, but their new material, while maybe containing moments of traditional Lep sounds, has branched out.
That said, I have enjoyed, on some level (certainly not all on the "traditional Lep sound" level), all of their releases. Promises probably came closest to an attempt to recapture that sound (and did good in a few areas), but I don't know if we'll ever hear that completely again. But I'll buy this one too and probably enjoy it, whether it sounds like "the OLD Def Leppard or not.
(But I do hope it recaptures the fascination of fans that have been turned off for awhile because almost every Def Leppard discussion brings them out, so they've been doing SOMETHING to alienate many of those people over the past 2 decades or so. It'd be nice for those people to finally hear something they enjoy too.)
