I cannot BELIEVE THIS POST!

The first tape I ever bought was "Electric Youth" by Debbie (though I actually discovered her music only a few months ago and for the first time really listened to her CDs thanks to a sale at my record store) and the first CD I bought was "Frogstomp" by Silverchair. Though I remember also getting "The Sound of Music" CD with th Silverchair CD. My dad got those for me.

How crazy is this coincidence??

Speaking of Silverchair, the new "Young Modern" is amazing!

My first album was probably one of the rare U2 albums... I bought it more recently than my first CD. I had a few tapes, but don't remember my first... they included
Weird Al - Off the Deep End
New Kids on the Block
DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

My first CD was on my 16th birthday I went to The Warehouse and got Richard Marx - Rush Street. That was followed closely by Metallica - Ride the Lightning and then Metallica - The Black Album because the songs I had thought were on Ride were actually on Black.

Jnuke 11-27-07 03:32 PM

Can't remember the first LP I bought with my own money. It might have been Jethro Tull's Aqualung. I know I owned records by Shaun Cassidy, Bee Gees, Abba and Bay City Rollers before that, but they may have been Christmas/birthday gifts I asked my parents for.

First CD purchase consisted of:
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Erasure - Chorus
The KLF - The White Room

aintnosin 11-27-07 04:11 PM

I don't remember my first album purchase. Could have been the Star Wars score. My first CD was Bruce Springsteen's The River. It was my fifth copy of that album in as many years getting scratched to hell that finally induced me to stick a crowbar in my wallet and get my first CD player in '86.

starman9000 11-27-07 04:22 PM

First Tape, as far as I can remember, was the Ghostbuster's soundtrack. I was probably too young to buy that though, so maybe The Party (yes, from the Mickey Mouse Club) or Weird Al would be the actually first purchased.

First CD: The Doors and Creedence Chronicles (bought while I waited for a Columbiahouse order of typical grunge titles to come in)

Shamus McAnally 11-27-07 08:31 PM

First album: The Bangles - Different Light
First Cassette: Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA
First CD: Bon Jovi - Keep The Faith/Slaughter - Stick It To Ya/Prince - Prince & The New Power Generation (bought all 3 at the same time)

MBoyd 11-27-07 08:45 PM

I was in third grade and recall receiving Billy Joel's Glass Houses and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack on tape. Before that I remember lots and lots of children's records . . . Sesame Street, Disney, Spider-Man, Free To Be You And Me. I never got into buying any rock music until high school though. I was very into James Bond soundtracks.

SexualPudding 11-27-07 09:15 PM

I got my first "record player"/stereo for Christmas when I was 6 or 7, and my first 3 LP's along with it:

Eagles- The Long Run
Survivor- Eye of the Tiger
Michael Jackson- Thriller

My first cd was The Razor's Edge by AC/DC in the fall of 1990. My family had a couple cd players in the house as early as 1986, but that was the first disc I actually owned, which I got as a present along with a new stereo. I had pretty much rolled with tapes until then.
