Which other album(s) should I check out that sound similar to Mellon Collie? I listend to that album a lot in high school.

= J

Nothing is really similar to Mellon Collie, All the albums are different from each other. But if you are looking for the 'classic' pumpkins sound. Siamese Dream?

Iha Definitely Out for Pumpkins Reunion

from pitchforkmedia:

Speaking to RollingStone.com's Rock & Roll Daily blog today, NYC man-about-town and label honcho James Iha revealed that he will most certainly not be a factor in the recently announced Smashing Pumpkins reunion hysteria.

"I'm not part of the current Smashing Pumpkins album or tour," claimed Iha. "I haven't spoken to Billy [Corgan] in years."

He did The Bells, Said Sadly, the Boy, Believe (all on the superb TAFH boxset), Summer (Adore B-Side), and Go, which was on Machina II.

Poo. I thought there would be *SOMETHING* out there or some type of promo sent to radio stations.

Maybe Billy Corgan is being all secretive with the CD because it is in fact 60 minutes of him singing and farting ala "Hollywood Knights".

I imagine this will leak relativley early. Probably May. Mr.Corgan has a habit of wanting his stuff out there as soon as it's pressed (ala TheFutureEmbrace & Mary Star Of The Sea leaks).

He did put out a solo album. I have it and it's some of the most mellow middle-of-the-road stuff you've ever heard. Really quite average.

'Be Strong Now' is pretty good.......it's got a nice singer songwriter ish vibe on it.....the b-side called 'My Advice' is probably the best non SP James track out there.....'Blew Away' from Pisces Iscariot is his best (and a totally underrated SP song).

Local Chicago station (Q101) reported that the single should be available by the end of the month or 1st week of May! Here's to hoping it's accurate.

Smashing Pumpkins Settle On 'Zeitgeist' Track List

The Smashing Pumpkins have settled on the track list for "Zeitgeist," the first album since 2000. As previously reported, the album is due July 7 via Martha's Music/Reprise. A first single has yet to be specified, nor has the makeup of the band beyond original frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.

"Is everyone afraid? Has everyone changed?," Corgan sings on opener "Doomsday Clock," a big, loud rocker in the vein of "Geek U.S.A." from "Siamese Dream." The set is frontloaded with songs of this ilk, hearkening back to the grunge era with detuned guitars and pounding drums on tracks such as "Tarantula," "Orchid" and "7 Shades of Black."

A more nuanced, less abrasive approach is evident on "Never Lost," which has vibraphone and organ tucked into the mix, while "For God and Country" is a bass-driven tune with shades of Depeche Mode-style synth-rock. The album closes with the mostly synth-powered "Pomp and Circumstance," as Corgan's multi-tracked vocals take on an angelic effect.

The band will play its first show in six-and-a-half years May 22 at the Grand Rex Theatre in Paris. European festival appearances will follow through mid-June; the Pumpkins' first U.S. show will be July 7 at the Live Earth concert in East Rutherford, N.J.

Here is the track list for "Zeitgeist":

"Doomsday Clock"
"7 Shades of Black"
"Orchid"
"That's the Way"
"Tarantula"
"Starz"
"United States"
"Never Lost"
"Bring the Light"
"Come On (Let's Go)"
"For God and Country"
"Pomp and Circumstance"

Could it be? Is Billy finally giving the fans the album they've wanted since Mellon Collie? Oh dear lord is it time to be excited.

Why would Billboard do that? I was under the impression that these people actually listen to some of the music before comparing it to other pumpkin songs.

They do. Which is exciting because it means the single should be released anytime now.

From NME.com:

Smashing Pumpkins: reunion members revealed?

Smashing Pumpkins' two new members have allegedly been unveiled.

As previously reported, original guitarist James Iha has said he would not be joining the band for their comeback, while original bassist D'arcy Wretzky has not commented publicly on whether she would be participating in the reunion.

Only frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain remain from the original band.

Although the group's publicist Mitch Schneider said management have not yet confirmed the lineup to him, the Chicago Tribune has reported that the group's new bassist is Ginger Reyes (formerly of the Halo Friendlies). Iha's replacement will be Jeff Schroeder guitarist from Californian band Lassie Foundation, reports MTV News.

However, neither Schroeder nor Reyes have confirmed their involvement officially.

The Pumpkins are set to release their comeback album Zeitgeist on July 10. They will play their first gig of the year in Paris on May 22.
