Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!

I read something over at Billboard about it, its a shame though that they couldn't have all the original members because it just doesn't seem the same.

Oh gawd, make'em stop.

At least release a new song or two to make it less obvious that it's just about the money.

I don't think it would really matter if it was Michael Anthony or someone else, his playing isn't particularly distinctive anyway IMO.

His harmony vocals would be missed though...his bass playing is not much, but his backup vocals are pretty distinctive.

Yep, Anthony's harmonies are a BIG part of the Van Halen sound.

So true. Anyone catch the Sammy concert on HDNET? Anthony comes out for the last part and they run through some Van Halen tunes. Like others have said, his vocal harmonies are just as much a part of the Van Halen sound as anything else.

I wonder if this will go the way of the "Guns n Roses" tour.

One of my favorite bands a decade ago. Now I wouldn't watch them for free even with Roth.

I've never seen Van Halen live. I just didn't care much when Sammy was in the band - I would have seen them in the 80's for sure, though, if Dave hadn't left the band.

If the original line-up is there (Michael Anthony included), then I might consider seeing them, depending on how well they're playing (if reviews from both fans and critics say that they've lost it and are just a shadow of their former selves then I won't bother).

Exactly, and since he's done background/harmonies on all their songs, he'd be more missed than either Roth or Hagar.

Wow. I can't believe so many people feel the same way.

Eddie it's over. Let VH die. Please.

It's not so much that I wish they would totally let it die. I wish they would pick a permanent singer (Roth), include Anthony, and release a new album. Then tour after that.

I'll certainly give them a chance. I hope the tour starts on the West coast though. Don't know if they'll make it all the way to completion.

I'm all in favor of a Van Halen reunion - especially with DLR, I just don't want it to be a half assed tour just for a payday.

I'd like to see a new album. Hell, they got more than halfway done with an entire album with Roth in the last decade, and that material is supposed to be pretty darned good - just finish the album and hit the road!

Why wouldn't Anthony be involved in a reunion, did he die or something? (Numanoid is not a VH fan, if you can't tell)

Even if they released a new album, the album and tour would be about the payday. No one wants to hear the new stuff, they'd just want to hear the classic DLR tracks they haven't heard in years.

I just don't think EVH has it in him anymore. III kinda proved it, as I don't think Cherone was the main problem with that album.

Assuming the album is good, I would love to hear the new stuff played. Maybe Roth is the key since he may demand more rocking stuff. It's easy to understand that they put out a pussy album with Cherone since Cherone came from a pussy band. The Roth songs from the greatest hits album a few years ago were pretty darn good.

I too am no expert, but on a recent Howard Stern show, Eddie Van Halen said that Anthony is going on tour with Sammy and "not respecting" the Van Halen music....Ok.....I have no idea what that means, I'd assume bickering + egos......

I liked the Roth era, but it would seem too tainted to have him come back now.

Probably in the minority here, but I think I'd be more interested in seeing Hagar w/Anthony back in the fold. Ixnay on Cherone --although I didn't mind Extreme, as III Sides to Every Story is an awesome album (but not without Nuno).

Although I say "more interested", I probably wouldn't catch them at all.

Oh, yeah, this reunion will work out.

If EVH has run MA out of the band, then I don't see how he and DLR could be in the same room without being at each other's throats.

Especially at $100 (at least) per ticket.
