when does the VR performance air on VH1C?
|
nevermind- just found it at vh1classic.com:
Monday, March 12th, at 8:30pm EST -------------------- The five inductees will be honored at a ceremony on March 12, 2007 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. Presenters and performers at the induction will be announced in February, 2007. "We couldn't be more proud to honor this unique, diverse group of rockers, rappers, singers and poets. This is what rock and roll is all about," said Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President and C.E.O., Joel Peresman. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on March 12, 2007 will also honor Ahmet Ertegun, legendary founder of Atlantic Records. Ertegun, who was a crucial figure in the careers of artists ranging from Ray Charles to Aretha Franklin to the Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin, was instrumental in founding and was the Chairman of the Foundation. The Rock Hall Museum in Cleveland's main exhibit hall is the Ahmet Ertegun Exhibition Hall. The 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, R.E.M., The Ronettes, Patti Smith and Van Halen were chosen by the 600 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after their first recording is released. |
This is airing live on the MHD channel.
I missed the first hour. My luck the first hour was when they inducted REM. |
i am pretty sure REM hasn't been inducted yet.

I just read on wikipedia (I know, not necessarily reliable) that there is a rumor that Edward checked himself out of rehab yesterday the 11th.
Oh Eddie |
Was that supposed to be "Round and Round" by Ratt, or "Runaround" with a "Live and Let Die" guitar riff?
wow that is really awful. |
omg
Mike and Sammy and PAUL SHAFFER playing Why Cant this Be Love omg |
Oh this is a trainwreck.
Wait.....this is really tuesday night about a month ago and I'm really watching American Idol on FOX Oh for Gawd's sake - complete with a horns section flourish at the end. this is really sad. |
this pretty much defines train wreck.
|
Sam What The Hell!!!!!
|
Please hurry and bring out REM before my head explodes.
|
Replacemts showed up for that pathetic VH induction...no Ed, Dave, Alex, no sale. Sammy, god bless him, sucked and is not, IMHO, VH.
|
So the Hall couldn't get surving Beatles to appear so why would you expect Van Halen to appear? They couldn't get Black Sabbath to play on stage or Blondie to play with the original members. It seems these rock "n" rollers don't have the respect to their Hall the way sports atheletes do who are dying to get in theirs.

Sammy Hagar is not why VH got in the Hall. He should be ashamed of himself...

Anyone who watched their performance during the show knows this is completely bullshit. Their cover was complete crap. Why was Slash playing riffs from Use Your Illusion? |
I really like Velvet Revolver, but that was just painful to sit through. And that second song? Good Lord. I just kept shaking my head and waiting for it to end.
I've also always liked Sammy's contribution to VH, and feel that he should be inducted. Granted, he didn't get VH to the level they were at when he joined, but he was a huge factor in the band's continued success for over 10 years. It was classy of him to acknowledge the Rock Hall board for inducting him as well, when "they didn't need to do that." As for "What Can't This Be Love?" Another "Good Lord" moment for me. Just painful. |
For those of us without vh1 classic, is there an online link anywhere with footage of the performance or ceremony or just clips?
gracias. |
You could tell everyone in the hall was wondering what Sammy Hagar was doing on that stage during the closing song (People have the Power). Halls of Fame are created to exclude musical lightweights like Hagar but there he is riding Van Halen's coattails to try to be significant. Eddie Veddar tried like hell to avoid singing with him. And even skinny Michael Stipe almost stepped all over his fat ass. And what the hell is he doing singing a Patti Smith song about social activism when all he ever sings about is pussy and tequila?
What an embarrassment. |
You know, as much as I've loved VH's music over the years, I still have to say that they've been really shitty to their fans the past number of years. It's obvious they don't give a damn about making music anymore, and their goddamn egos won't even let them come to a simple awards show and let everyone show them how much they've appreciated them over the years. What a slap in the face to VH fans everywhere! Sammy and Michael are apparently the only ones who cared enough to show up, and neither of them even carry the Van Halen name! Where the fuck was Alex? Is he Ed's puppet? Can't do anything without Ed's approval? And Dave. Oh my god, Dave. I really thought from your recent interviews that you were going to be the one with your head back on your shoulders and your priorities where they belong, and you've shown that you're just as bad as you ever were. You'll perform a bluegrass version of Jump with a row of twanging hicks, but you won't come to be inducted into the RnR HoF and perform a song with an actual rock band. The fact that VR even had to perform is, in itself, stupid. VH should have taken this not as a reason to give the fans what they want and reunite for another album and tour necessarily, but just as a reason to put their differences aside for one night, show up together and tell everyone "Hey, thanks a lot for your support", and play a couple songs for the fans. Was that too much to ask?

Funny how people slam Sammy and accuse him of riding VH's popularity. Most seem to forget that VH got MORE popular when he joined. Had their first #1 album when he joined and went straight down the tubes when he left.
And, he's the only member/ex-member who continues to put out music and tour regularly to a pretty good size fan base. |
Personally, I think the Sammy-era VH is lightweight stuff, but Sammy isn't entirely lightweight himself.
He was in Montrose and that first Montrose album is an all time classic - Hall of Fame worthy stuff! |
