Agreed. This would sell . . . very well. :) |
Here's the clip of where he flips out a bit upon having monitor problems...
(justfiied, in my opinion - someone wasn't doing their job): <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gGalV-2pmQc&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gGalV-2pmQc&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> There's also an incident at another show (more recent, I believe) where he nearly knocked a stack over on Dave as they left the stage, but I can't remember which show...maybe I'll try to check this evening. |

I know for a fact that at the San Diego show, they had a huge widescreen TV on the side of the stage that was playing the show for the roadies that certainly would've made a great DVD. I'm certain with all the cameras filming for the big screen above the stage have film in them (or hard drives). Would be a waste if they weren't filming the shows. I'm sure Eddie wants the shows documented because his dream of being onstage w/ his son came true. |
I can't imagine they would pass up the shitload of money that would be made from a live album/dvd release of this.

Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!

Eddie Van Halen promises more touring 48 mins ago LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Eddie Van Halen is still hot for David Lee Roth. More than six months after the two former combatants wrapped a successful reunion tour at the helm of their faded rock band Van Halen, some new music and more touring could be in the offing. Guitarist Van Halen told Rolling Stone he had "a lot of fun" on tour, that singer Roth was "a blast," and he has written "tons of music" for what would be the band's first album in more than a decade. The rock veterans had been at war since Roth quit the band in 1985 to pursue a solo career, but they declared a ceasefire to kick off a 75-date tour in September 2007. Also along for the trek was Eddie's drummer brother, Alex, and his teen-aged son, Wolfgang, substituting for Michael Anthony on bass. "We are a band -- it wasn't just a one-off tour we did," Van Halen told the magazine, adding that he planned to meet with Roth this summer to play him demos of new songs. The band released its last album in 1998, "Van Halen III," its first and only recording with singer Gary Cherone, who filled in for Roth's replacement, Sammy Hagar. The album bombed, Cherone quickly exited, and the band foundered. A spokeswoman for Roth declined to comment to Reuters on the article, and Van Halen's publicist/fiancee Janie Liszewski, said she had no additional information. (Editing by Jill Serjeant) |
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
Written tons of music, eh? Eddie's been saying that in interviews for years now.

Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
did they do the bluegrass version of Jump?
|
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
I guess Eddie had no choice but to keep Roth, since Gary C didn't want his job back...

As much as I've always been a huge Michael Anthony fan, I will admit that when I saw VH in Fort Lauderdale last year...the rest of the band makes up for his absence.

Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
Live shows are never going to sound exactly the same as the studio recordings. And if they did, what would be the point of seeing a live show?
|
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
I've been waiting for a new VH album ever since the massive misfire of VHIII came out over ten years ago.
A new album with Roth is just what the doctor ordered! (Somebody get me a doctor!) |
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
And again!
Van Halen Recording New Album With David Lee Roth Hard rock legends Van Halen are hard at work on a new album with original vocalist David Lee Roth, according to a statement made late last week by its music publishers. Various reports also suggest the group will hit the road upon the LP's completion sometime next year. "The band is currently in the studio recording an album with Roth that is due for release in 2011," read an announcement by Warner/Chappell, which announced the Van Halen camp had renewed its longstanding deal. The album with Roth would mark the first time the singer has appeared on a full album of new music with the group since '1984' was released more than a quarter century ago. Billboard also revealed that Live Nation Promotions Executive Irving Azoff -- who serves as the band's manager -- spoke of the 2011 tour during a conference about concert industry earnings on Aug. 5. Van Halen's last proper studio album, 'Van Halen III' was recorded in 1998 with Extreme frontman Gary Cherone on vocals. The band and Roth put aside their longstanding differences in 2008 for a successful North American tour. http://www.spinner.com/2010/08/09/va...david-lee-roth |

I'd love to hear a new album, but I foresee this project collapsing under an immense amount of infighting and ego. |
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
New Van Halen cd.....is this going to be another Chinese Democracy??? If so someone get Dr. Pepper on the phone asap!
In all seriousness, it could be ok as long as expectations aren't too high, which of course they will be. |
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
I would have to pass on this unless I found it used for like $5(if it ever comes out)......... I so much more liked Hagar over Roth!
|
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
Even with Roth back on, I don't think they could ever get the magic back of those first four albums from the late 70's/early 80's...

Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
Me Wise Magic was surprisingly great. I'm optimistic.

Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
I loved both tracks from Greatest Hits Vol 1. Can't Get This Stuff No More is a great track.
|
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
^ Agreed, those tracks with Roth were good. Looking forward to this.

Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
I saw Roth a few years back solo (Before VH tour I think) and I was surprised how good he still was. Hair was gone, but he rocked and had a great little band. Helped that it was in a tiny place (House of Blues)

Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
DLR's Eat 'Em And Smile >>> anything Van Halen has done after Fair Warning
|
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree on that one. 1984 is a great album (except for I'll Wait, which is bland and soulless), and OU812 is a fun, varied album.
|
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
1984 is a strong album, but Eat Em And Smile is better -- although Drop Dead Legs probably has the best VH outro of all time, and I dig Top Jimmy. The less said about 5150 and OU812 the better IMO.

Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
IMO the first four VH albums are untouchable.
Diver Down slips with the preponderance of covers and some filler, but LITTLE GUITARS is my favorite VH song period. 1984 is great as well, although it doesn't have as much replay value for me (mainly because Jump, Panama, HFT, and I'll Wait got SO DAMN OVERPLAYED when the album came out). I can't say it's not a great album, because it is, but I don't return to it that frequently. Eat Em And Smile is a perfect hard rock record IMO, even if its best track (Ladies Night In Buffalo) is anything but. It's not as ambitious as Diver Down or 1984, but it has enough variety and enough raw talent and power to elevate it into greatness. Skyscraper is an ambitious failure. OU812 was superior in 1988, but neither album achieved greatness. |
Re: Van Halen possibly reuniting with Roth again!
FWIW, Fair Warning is easily my favorite Van Halen album, to the point where I consider it to be a cut above their other classic albums.
And OU812 isn't the best thing they ever did, but it's definitely the best thing they did with Sammy Hagar. Cabo Wabo and Finish What Ya Started in particular stick out for me. |
