The wife and I saw him last night at the Greek. Great show. We had seen him twice previously at the fair here (all three times in August now). It was a beautiful night, and a great crowd. I believe he does the same set list for each stop on this tour. He had four big costume changes (Smells like Nirvana, Dare to be Stupid, White and Nerdy with his Segway, and Amish Paradise. He also changed and brought out the 501st for encores of The Saga Begins and Yoda) and he showed Al TV as usual during the switch.

Mostly. Some nights he does "You Don't Love Me Anymore" and other nights he does "One More Minute" instead. Otherwise it's the same show every night.

Actually except for his his tour last year (The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour), where he did a different show every night, the variation that we're getting on this tour is more than he normally does. With how tightly scripted everything is with videos, costume changes, etc, there is normally no variation throughout the entire tour.

The show sunday night was great. I had a smile on my face the whole time. I wish the orchestra was louder, though. I've seen him 5 or 6 times over the last 25 years.

My crazy ex-girlfriend was probably there. She's a huge fan of his, which is funny considering how much she's lacking in humor herself.

I thought she lived in the greater Niagara Falls area?

Just learned Madonna gave him the title for 'Like A Surgeon'
That's pretty admirable and classic.
Good sport.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic on Outlasting the Stars He Parodies, Why He’s Not Making New Music and the Truth About His Torrid Affair With Madonna

  • Don’t expect a new album anytime soon. “I signed a record deal in 1982 for 10 albums, and then I renegotiated twice, and it became a 14-album contract, which I finally fulfilled in 2014,” he says. “I just don’t want to sign under the contract. I like being a free agent and doing whatever I need to do or want to do. I’m more into one off-stuff now. Because when you do an album, if you’re doing my kind of material, it’s hard to have 12 songs ready to go all at once and have them all be topical and timely. I like having the freedom of being able to just put out material whenever I feel like it. Granted, I haven’t done a lot of that since 2014.”
  • Weird Al knows there are petitions to get him to perform the Super Bowl halftime show. But he doesn’t think he’ll ever be on the NFL shortlist. “I’m just being real here. I just don’t see it ever happening. Maybe the Foo Fighters will do it and have me on as a special guest… That’s that kind of stage scares me for a number of reasons. One of which is, no matter who you are, when you’re put in front of that many eyeballs, you’re going to have a lot of haters. And I know I don’t like being hated.”
  • It was the Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” that inspired him to do “Weird.” “Biopics historically have always been pretty inaccurate, and that always kind of bugged me,” he says. “That’s one of the reasons why I decided to reach out to Eric Appel to write the screenplay. I’m a big Queen fan, and I liked the movie and it won awards and was very popular. But it bothered me that there were so many artistic liberties taken, just flat out changing the facts, changing the chronology, just making it more quote unquote, cinematic, and I thought, ‘Okay, well, maybe I can do a biopic but just like, just throw facts out the window. Just go completely off the rails.'”
  • Weird Al knows his parents, who died in 2004, would “have gotten a huge kick out” of the movie, even though it shows them as jokingly disapproving of his music. “They would have gotten that it’s a joke. They know me. My parents were very loving and very supportive, and that’s not the kind of dynamic who ever see in a rock music biopic. It’s just not one of the tropes. So we had to make it so that the whole arc of the movie is I’m trying to get my my father’s love. Because he hates parody music, he hates accordions, he hates everything about who I’m trying to be. The overreaching theme of the movie is like, I’m famous, I’ve ostensibly got everything I could possibly want, except for the love of my parents. So that that had to be what we were going for."

‘Daniel Radcliffe Just Got an Emmy Nomination for Playing Me in a Movie!': Al Yankovic

Al Yankovic, Outstanding Television Movie, Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics, Outstanding Writing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”

“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d be able to say, ‘Hey, Daniel Radcliffe just got an Emmy nomination for playing me in a movie!’ But here we are. I’m enormously thrilled and incredibly grateful. Our movie basically pokes fun at all those awards-bait biopics, so it was both ironic and mind-blowing to wake up this morning with eight nominations! Thanks, Television Academy!”

He's playing Pine Knob here in the Detroit area, which is the biggest venue I've ever seen him play (Seats 15K). Usually he plays much smaller amphitheaters and I have seen them occasionally sparsely attended. It will be interesting to see how this plays out

My wife is NOT a Weird Al fan and would never go to one of his shows with me (I've had to just take my kids in the past), HOWEVER she loves Puddles, and because of him, she's excited for us to go see the show at the Venetian!

I challenge anyone to got to a Weird Al show and not have a good time. I hope that she is pleasantly surprised by his live show!

Our closest venue is a casino which is fine except it's in a destination spot in the middle of nowhere, so that likely means getting a room and investing in the costs that go along with it.

I missed his quiet, acoustic tour. I'd like to go to another while the kids are still young.

Hoping this means a new album is around the corner.

He might be done with albums in the traditional sense. His record deal expired and he is in no rush to sign another one. He said when it expired that any future music would be released when he wanted to, to keep it more timely. He didn't like waiting until he had enough songs to fill an album before releasing anything. So we might get a few singles before then, but probably not a full album. We did get a new polka medley recently, which made me suspect that another tour was around the corner.
