Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
The wife and I saw him last night at the Greek. Great show. We had seen him twice previously at the fair here (all three times in August now). It was a beautiful night, and a great crowd. I believe he does the same set list for each stop on this tour. He had four big costume changes (Smells like Nirvana, Dare to be Stupid, White and Nerdy with his Segway, and Amish Paradise. He also changed and brought out the 501st for encores of The Saga Begins and Yoda) and he showed Al TV as usual during the switch.

Actually except for his his tour last year (The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour), where he did a different show every night, the variation that we're getting on this tour is more than he normally does. With how tightly scripted everything is with videos, costume changes, etc, there is normally no variation throughout the entire tour. |
Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
The show sunday night was great. I had a smile on my face the whole time. I wish the orchestra was louder, though. I've seen him 5 or 6 times over the last 25 years.

My crazy ex-girlfriend was probably there. She's a huge fan of his, which is funny considering how much she's lacking in humor herself.

The Vanity tour is back! That's awesome!

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Our kids love some of his more off-beat tracks like "Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota" and "You Don't Love Me Anymore," so we are very pumped for this!

Episode 1 of the new season of Reno 911 on The Roku Channel (a free app) he does his parody of Ted Nugent.

Just learned Madonna gave him the title for 'Like A Surgeon'
That's pretty admirable and classic. Good sport. |

‘Daniel Radcliffe Just Got an Emmy Nomination for Playing Me in a Movie!': Al Yankovic
Al Yankovic, Outstanding Television Movie, Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics, Outstanding Writing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d be able to say, ‘Hey, Daniel Radcliffe just got an Emmy nomination for playing me in a movie!’ But here we are. I’m enormously thrilled and incredibly grateful. Our movie basically pokes fun at all those awards-bait biopics, so it was both ironic and mind-blowing to wake up this morning with eight nominations! Thanks, Television Academy!” |

That's a twofer I can't pass up. Missed puddles and Al last time around they were on tour so hope to get a chance this time.

Dates are posted at weirdal.com.
You can sign up for the artist presale. Spoiler:
He's playing Pine Knob here in the Detroit area, which is the biggest venue I've ever seen him play (Seats 15K). Usually he plays much smaller amphitheaters and I have seen them occasionally sparsely attended. It will be interesting to see how this plays out |

He's playing at every nearby amphitheater except the closest one.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Our closest venue is a casino which is fine except it's in a destination spot in the middle of nowhere, so that likely means getting a room and investing in the costs that go along with it.
I missed his quiet, acoustic tour. I'd like to go to another while the kids are still young. Hoping this means a new album is around the corner. |
