This band is horrible. Lyrics are pretty funny though. Can we start a Hoobastank bashing thread? Another band thats completely bland, but they do wear cop shades.

Not to hijack the thread or anything but what about that new band Hinder? If I hear that goddamn "Lips Of An Angel" song one more time... These guys sound just like Nickleback, except with even less talent. I was trying to explain to someone the other day that Hinder exemplifies everything that is wrong with popular music today. I just don't understand how people eat this shit up. (The almighty power of corporate radio I suppose.) Sorry to threadcrap but I couldn't resist.

Name the bands you like and I'm sure there will be reasons to say the same thing to you.

One of the local DJs was talking a coupla days ago about how many couples request this song and say that it is 'their' song. Shows how many people actually listen to the lyrics (or how many blind girlfriends there are)

In the HMV stores here in the UK, they are either in the "Heavy Metal" or "Heavy Rock" sections in the store.

I find this funny.

Okay. Nada Surf, Josh Rouse, Pete Yorn, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, Anberlin... Don't get me wrong, Nickleback is very good at what they do. (Christ, they must be doing something right, they've sold millions of records!) I just don't find their music appealing, and I'm sure you might say the exact same thing about some of the artists above. To each their own.

I'm not trying to start a pissing contest about music or anything but it just makes me laugh when the mass public think something is great because they hear it on the radio 24/7 (that Hinder song). I guess that's the whole idea behind radio anyway.

You listed bands equally as bad as Nickelback.

Fair enough. I knew I would be opening myself up to some criticism. Take your best shot.

Or people's tastes are different, which seems to be a concept that you refuse to grasp.

Oasis is one of my favorite bands. So is The Smashing Pumpkins. The point is are you saying Nickelback and Hinder suck because of the lyrics or the music. I guess I don't really give a shit about lyrics for the most part. I can't understand what the singer is trying to say half the time anyway. Just as long as the song "rocks me" for the lack of a better phrase I will like it. I guess there are more important things in my life than the music I listen to. If I like a song I like a song. I don't have to check off a list like "is the music technically right?" "Are the lyrics going to change my life?" "Does this band have artistic integrity?" Before I decide the song is "worth my respect" or some other BS.

Ah, a fellow Oasis fan. Cool. (Lord knows they're not renowned for their lyrical prowess.) I can appreciate a good Nickleback song as much as the next guy. (That guy knows how to write a catchy tune.) I've always been facinated (jealous) by bands that seem to have a good formula for their songwriting, like Oasis. Noel Gallagher makes it look easy, but it's really not. He has written some perfect examples of what a good pop song is all about.

I guess that all I was trying to say was that I really dislike that Hinder song and the fact that the mass public seems to love it bothers me. (I work in a music store so that probably adds to the annoyance factor.) When I first heard that song, I thought it was Nickleback, but then I realized that it was kind of like a poor attempt at a Nickleback song by a band that was trying to emulate them. I haven't heard anything else from the album besides that song, so that's all I was basing my comments on. Anyway, no hard feelings.

I liked Nickelback's first album. My wife has a couple of the ones since - they are OK.

But my favorite bands are Collective Soul and Live - Collective Soul being very guilty of writing some empty poppy songs now and then. Ditto for Live lately (they seem to be particularly on a God Kick these days).

I think that the problem is simply that they are simply overplayed. You find Nickelback on practically every station - rock, pop, top 40s, etc. Anybody that gets played that much becomes hated. That's how it works. They play it until you want to scream in agony every time you hear it. I've had perfectly good songs ruined that way.

Then again I'm not very snobbish when it comes to popular music. As long as it's got decent music in it (practically note-less repetitive pop and rap music excluded) I'm cool with it (OK, I hold a minor grudge against country music too).

I think Nickelback is horrible. If it was physically possible, they'd have as good of a chance as anyone at making my ears vomit. That said, I couldn't care less if other people enjoy them. There a great deal of cds in my collection that I will fully admit aren't all that original, creative or talented, but there's just something about the music that just makes me enjoy them. If others can say the same thing about Nickelback, more power to them.
