I've had excellent success so far. Very few show up in bad shape, and almost all come with all artwork.

saoirse 12-16-06 10:40 AM

I'm still loving lala. Almost all of my trades have come with back art. I usually try to send a message when I know something is coming, to ask nicely if they could include all art if they have it.

Overall, the percentage has been quite good. Also, with them probably expanding to Japan, Canada, England, etc.. it could make for some more variety in CDs. I'm really looking forward to that.

Wasn't aware of this. Trading with people in England, even with more expensive postage (?), could create some interesting trading for sure. My trading has slowed waaay down. Might average one out and one in each week. I've been thrilled with a few of the rare CDs sent my way.

Going to Tower Records and picking up some of the litter to trade has helped my trading out. Also, I think as it grows, the opportunity to trade more will too. I think Japan will be interesting since a lot of people like those imports. I think some of them will require more postage, but I heard they worked out a deal to Canada that it would cost the same as it currently does.

Anyone get any complete box sets on Lala yet?

So far I have gotten:

XTC - Transistor Blast
Costello/Nieve
Jimi Hendrix - Stages
Led Zeppelin - Both of them

I've sent out:
Cheap Trick - Sex, America, Cheap Trick
Yesyears

Cosmic Bus 01-02-07 09:14 PM

I have Low's Lifetime of Temporary Relief boxset up for trade. Hoping someone will eventually trade Tom Waits' Orphans set, Girl Group Sounds: Lost and Found (the one that came in a hat box), or the Life Less Lived '70s and '80s goth box.

Hey everyone...I was hoping that there was some sort of lala.com notifier for Mac OS X. I'm online a good bit, but I'm not at lala.com all the time. So, is there anything that works like Google notifier or an ebay alert that notes when CDs are wanted?

Thanks in advance.

I started this a few months ago and have had some good results.

I only have 30 CDs in my have list but traded around 35 CDs.

The best CD send to me "Clash on Broadway Disc 1 & 2" I'm waiting on Disc 3

Since February I have shipped 42 CDs and received (or at least on its way) 44 CDs.

You should always be adding CDs to both your have and want list to maximize LaLa.

SlingshotBandit 04-14-07 08:35 PM

I signed up for LaLa but I'm too lazy to realy maintenance it, and I don't want to get CDs without the jewel cases.

Therefore, anyone willing to post their trade lists (on LaLa) on here? (But then again, I guess that's what the CD Exchange thread is for. But it's maddeningly dead in there!

If you are shipping a CD, why don't you just put the one you receive in the empty case?

It can't take more then 10 seconds.

Well, listing the CD, shipping them out, keeping track of interested parties...well I've never actually had to worry about that part yet. It's the endeavor I foresee that has left me hesitant.

More than anything, I'm probably concerned about the CDs I'd be getting in return, in regards to condition.

I just started adding more to my want list. I only have about 50 so far.

Hell, I've only sent 6 and received 7 since November. I have clicked on a few emails from them and been too late to trade, but it's still slow going.

I'm not complaining, though. I freely admit that my have list is a little on the weak side, and a lot of my wants are somewhat obscure and not likely to be traded.

Any chance of this ever being expanded to DVDs?

atlantamoi 05-27-07 04:35 PM

My trades have almost totally stopped. I think I'll have to add more commercial material to my wants to get my trade level balanced.

mndtrp 05-28-07 03:24 AM

I have plenty of commercial material on my have list, but am usually sleeping when people are confirming receives. I manage to miss a couple every day, because they get snatched up so quickly.

My trading is in a virtual standstill, maybe one disc either way a month.

Michael Corvin 05-28-07 07:34 AM

I've received my maximum. I've been too lazy to send out more to get things going again.

reubs82 05-28-07 10:33 AM

I've traded over a 100 with them total (sends and receives), but if you read along in their forums over there you'll see there's a reason that there is definitely a divide among users. There are record store owners who can send out 50 copies of the same title therefore jacking up there trade numbers and improving their "karma", and there are also people with 3,000 haves which means there's no way they are going to miss out on a chance to send something out...couple that with want lists that include the entire Lala library and you have some monster traders who seriously seem to cripple the whole system.

well that takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?

cdollaz 05-28-07 11:20 AM

The problem is probably the karma system itself. A cd should go to the person who has had it on their want list the longest, assuming they are able to receive. The "weighted" karma system is kinda stupid, especially when it is based on other users marking things correctly.

I would agree. My approach to Lala is get a CD I'm interested, give it a listen, and trade it back out ASAP. If I like it I'll go out and buy it. If not, it's only $1.25 out of my pocket (cheaper than a rental...). I'm not sure other people take this same approach which means that some long-awaiting CDs never come in. I've asked around over there, and they say, "If you want something go out and buy it...your list needs to be more diversified". There are hardly any top 40 artists on my list, and what's the point of trading discs if the philosophy is, "If you want it then buy it"?

Jeremy517 05-28-07 01:16 PM

I haven't received a CD in almost five months. Granted I don't have a whole lot on my list and there are a few rare things on my list, but some of the others should have been filled by now. The only explanation I can see is that I'm too low on the karma ladder. I'm not going to bother sending anything out until I actually get something back. The karma system stinks.

I do basically the same thing. I use/used lala to check out stuff I wouldn't have normally. If it is good, I'll buy the artists other albums in retail.

mndtrp 05-29-07 03:45 AM

I don't use lala as my primary source of getting discs. If one comes, great. If not, I'll pick it up somewhere else.

It's like having the movie channel on satellite. If a movie comes up that I want to watch, I'll watch it. If there aren't any good movies on, I'll go pick one up. Granted, at this point I don't even have cable, but the analogy still applies.
