I've had great luck. Only about 5% bad.

Here's a link to my have list if you want something:

If it plays, mark it good. Seems simple enough to me.

Listened to the audio side all the way through and had no issues. I guess I'll give the DVD side a spin and see if that works. If so I'll go with the majority and mark it good. It will be one I won't send out again though. Conscience and all. :)

Thanks for the input guys.

Any idea what's happening? I can get jacquer's lalinator program to work, but prefer yours.

I need the same help as this guy. Please respond. I'm desperate.

Well, LaLa seems to have changed their website design again. It now no longer works with Safari. Guess I'm done trading CDs (at least for a while) :(

C-Mart 09-18-07 01:28 PM

So I signed up for LALA.com and have no idea how to trade anything? All I can find is the stuff to upload my music and create playlists, etc... but there is nothing saying anything about trading CDs, no links that I can find, nothing in the FAQ or in the About LaLa section... please help.

Sorry, when they changed their website, my program stopped working. Since I haven't had anything shipped to me in about nine months, fixing it never really took a high priority. I can try to fix it if I find some time later this week, but sorry, I can't make any promises.

Looks like it's working again. Please ignore the above bellyaching.

So can anyone tell me how to get to the trading section of the website? Thanks?

Once you sign up and get some shipping materials, just mark all the stuff that you want as "want" (the more the better), and mark what you already own and are willing to trade as "have". The Want/Have box is usually right next to the album cover. Then wait. There is no section to actively trade, as in you want my copy of Fush You Mang and will give me your copy of Victims of the Future. The software matches up trades at random. You'll see a "CD requested" icon on your trading page and will receive an email. When you confirm that you're going to send it, you'll quickly get a notice that something from your want list is on its way.

I was kind of confused when I started too. I kept looking at individual member's lists for stuff I wanted, then tried to match my stuff up with their want list.

Hollowgen 09-19-07 11:35 PM

for a while, i was trading with good progress. now, for about 6 months i've received nothing at all. i'm "green", and i have a list of about 50 wants. shit, i even have "futuresexlovesounds" on my want list. still, no one's sending me anything. i've got more to trade, but i'm wondering if something's broken!

other than that, lala is awesome. i've purchased stuff on there as well, and they've been smokin deals.

does anyone remember the website "switchouse.com"? i yearn for a format like that again.... too bad amazon.com bought them out and it ceased to exist.

saoirse 09-21-07 12:56 PM

I'm still loving it, but trading does seem to come and go. I have the same name on their in case anyone wants to look at my have list. It's all for trade. I'm always looking for recommendations based on my want list too.

I'll resurrect this thread because I can't get the site to work the past couple of days. Only the header of the page loads. What is someone is requesting The Beavis and Butt-head Experience?

mndtrp 03-23-08 09:02 PM

I've given up on this site. It was a good run, but the focus has slipped from trading. I may revisit at some point, but I doubt it will be soon.

SlingshotBandit 04-13-08 05:35 PM

Anyone know where the old thread for where we used to trade/sell CDs on this forum is? It used to be a sticky, and then it was let go due to inactivity. I tried multiple searches, but couldn't locate it.

A-aron 06-27-08 05:19 PM

i know it was discussed at one time, but has anyone sent to someone famous? I just had one for a Colin Quinn, but it was in Florida so I doubt it was him.

Icon769 08-17-08 11:23 PM

Has anyone visited the site lately? It is harder to navigate IMO. Also, it appears now they are also trying to sell MP3's. Is their new selling digital files system legal?

Dan1boy 08-18-08 10:14 AM

I haven't received anything for months after my last trade..another sign the CD market is drying up...like others here, it was fun for awhile and a terrific idea to explore new music legally and inexpensively but it's been desolate for me lately...then again, I don't listen to Top 40 or most radio ready albums so that might be a big factor...

I stopped trading there a few months ago because I couldn't get any high priority discs any more. I had no interest in any of the other 'features' they were adding. I bet they still aren't enabling trading for new users which was done solely to get out of the trading market.

It was great for awhile and I got some terrific discs but it's a fairly useless site now.

printerati 08-18-08 09:29 PM

I am averaging about one trade every other month now, and have no interest in the online listening credits, so "fairly useless" pretty well sums it up.

kefrank 08-18-08 09:51 PM

i haven't gotten anything for a few months now. i'm about ten ahead unfortunately. is there any way to get compensation for the CDs you are owed and get out?

Yeah, this about sums it up for me too. I really hate the new design.

I don't think there's any way to 'cash out' so to speak - since their trading business model depends on a constant deficit of cds, it probably wouldn't make much sense to allow for an easy out of that kind. I had them cancel my account once I managed to get flush, but it really doesn't cost you anything to leave your list up on the site and just act surprised if you ever get another one. Technically you're only out about $20 since in lala land your CDs are only worth something like a buck seventy-five anyway.

I wish they hadn't changed their focus and I don't believe it has anything to do with the CD market drying up that the site has turned into a shell of its former self. The owners wanted to get rid of the trading area of the site so they stopped marketing trading as an option and stopped enablnig the feature for new users - naturally this had the effect of slowing trade for everyone else as the overall trading pool became stagnant - there's no way to keep a fairly small number of traders active without a fresh influx of CDs into the trading pool.

Lala was way behind on the whole music locker concept - I loved it when it was called mp3.com 10 years ago, but when they failed at it I lost interest completely - especially with the advent of cheap portage LARGE storage space. 10 years ago, I couldn't carry 160 gb of music around with me conveniently so having a place on the Internet that could recognize what I had and let me listen to it was great - I couldn't stand having to physically upload music to the lala servers.

I certainly have little interest in buying digital files unless it's lossless and DRM-free - I didn't stick around lala long enough to see where they were going in that area.

Made 700 or 800 trades though so it was good for awhile

fuzzbox 08-19-08 08:48 AM

I'm pretty similar to the above posts- I seem to get a CD about every other month now. I'm about 5 or so in the hole, so it's no huge loss to me. If I even up, that's great, but I'm not sending out any more CDs as of now.

It was good while it lasted, but I think that lawyers got the best of them, and they decided to try to obfuscate the trading aspect of the site. My guess would be that by the end of the year, they'll eliminate it altogether.

How they actually think they can be profitable from selling MP3s when Amazon and iTunes exists is beyond me, but I guess they think they know what they're doing...

What I don't get is charging for the internet play. At a glance, $.20 cents doesn't sound too bad, but then you see something like playlist.com that does the same thing for free and puts it into perspective.

For months and I've stayed at 10 more shipped than received, and I've slowly crept up to being 2 down. I was considering shipping out 8 more but if fiver is right about new users not being able to trade, I'll probably hold off.

It was fun while it lasted.
