this would have been 101 on trades for me. It was bound to happen. I was just pumped to get that one so soon after release. Oh well. It's back on the list.

People who don't send the back tray insert can go fuck themselves.

Well, just got yet another REGULAR version of a disc that was listed (and PICTURED) as being different. Sigh.

I was reading some of the forum comments about the art "controversy". I like the people who state that "you have no right complaining about something you're only getting for a $1, so STFU". Funny that they forget the shipping fee PLUS the initial $$$ spent on the CD that you traded away to GET that disc withOUT the artwork.

Oh, and...I might be late here, but that prog ROCKS, Jeremy! A couple of things (since i'm mostly computer illiterate)...
  1. Would it be possible to set a particular WAV file instead of the beeps?
  2. Would it be hard to be able to send it to the tray?
  3. How difficult would it be to make it a widget?

You do certainly have the right to complain, if you say "I want the art" and the sender agrees. 1.00 or 100.00, you're not getting what you 'paid' for.
And the first CD I traded out, in addition to paying for it initially, was going for 9 bucks used on Amazon.com marketplace. So yeah, if I'm giving up a CD and paying 1.75, and request it complete, and you send it to me, I do expect it complete.
I can see why people want the artwork [myself included], I can see why some people don't care, but I honestly can't see why someone would 'oppose' sending/receivingit.

Someone might be sending me out another REGULAR copy of the CD that I received today. In addition, he told me that he only has the booklet and not the tray art. I told him that besides the fact it could be the regular version, i'd like both the front AND back...so he could go ahead and cancel it.

I got a email from la la stating..

We were notified by another member that you recently asked to cancel a trade due to lack of tray art. We would like to remind you that a lack of tray art is no means for cancellation. Our Trading and Use Policy states the following:

"You can report CDs that are received without Cover Art. However, missing or incomplete cover art is not a valid reason to request canceling a trade, or to receive credits or refunds."

We've instructed the shipper to send the album and its art as is. Please mark this album as Received good and with art when it arrives (assuming it plays without interruption and includes the front booklet).

Thanks,
Support @ lala
How the fuck is tray art not a part of the cover art? Even if you wanted to get semantical, it's the back cover art.

Now, I only have 35 trades so far (18 shipped, 19 received - and out of those 19...3 were the wrong version, 1 was unplayable and i'm still waiting for 4). I'm beginning to think this site might not be for me if it's going to be this difficult.

Maybe not. Everything is spelled out in the FAQ though, so there is really no excuse for being surprised by this.

Yeah Rogue, you might not like it, but that is their policy. Always has been. I'm kind of surprised by how many discs I've received with only the front cover. Must be many people who store their discs in cases where the back insert is not needed.

Or a lot of, what were they called, 'rip and ship'ers, who don't care about art.

If you get a shit cd, just wait for 14 days and fuck the guy who sent it to you by saying that you didn't receive it.

Yeah, these...

What do I do with the Cover Art?

When you agree to ship you may be prompted to ship with or without the Cover Art. If you agree to ship with the cover art, please include the front booklet. The back tray insert is optional.

How do I receive the liner notes/Cover Art?

You can set your preference to receive CDs only with Cover Art from your Account Settings page. Alternatively, you can select to receive CDs with or without cover art (first available). This is the default setting.

When you receive a CD, you should mark it as having been received in good condition with or without cover art.
...pretty much sum it up.

However, if they go through the trouble of adding the option for the user to request that his/her discs be sent with original art, why wouldn't the tray insert be a part of that? Oh well. I hear what you guys are saying, though.

I decided awhile ago that it was pretty likely that if I request a particular edition of a CD (remaster for instance) that the odds were pretty good I'd receive a different edition than the one I wanted...so I buy anything special new. For instance, I am trying to track down the rolling stones sacd hybrids..I wouldn't think about trying to get those from lala as I'm pretty sure most of the ones I received would be the old version (not to mention I want the digipacks for these particular cd's).

With regards to cover art: I personally don't care whether I receive cover art or not as I rip everything I get to my hard drive immediately, and most of my cd's are in binders. HOWEVER, I disagree with the lala policy that those who request cover art may only get the front art without the tray art. Those people obviously care about collecting their cd's in as complete a form as possible and deserve to be treated that way...otherwise they would set their account not to care about cover art like I do.

Overall though, I'm very happy with lala...267 trades and only 8 cancelled, broken, or never received...I've gotten a lot of music I might not have ordered otherwise on my own for cd's I don't like or never listen to. I love this site as I never thought I'd get rid of some of these cd's

LaLa makes it pretty clear that they can't guarantee a specific version of a CD. From their FAQ:

We have received a lot of feedback regarding multiple versions of an album title. Some of you are looking to get specific versions of an album title (e.g. Enhanced versions, Bonus Track versions, Original Master Recording, etc). While we’d like to guarantee these versions, our current CD listing interfaces and matching algorithms are not yet at a level to support it. Because of this, our general goal has been to consolidate multiple versions of an album into a single standard, non-enhanced album to avoid possible confusion. We realize there are still many cases where enhanced versions are displayed and it creates the wrong expectation. So, while work to provide a better solution, we ask that you do not add albums to your Want List unless you are willing to receive a standard or non-enhanced version of the CD. We appreciate your patience while we decide how best to solve this problem with album versions. Contact Support through the "Traded" link in the top bar on your home page and then click on the "?" for the CD you are having a problem getting the enhanced version. We will help you cancel a trade but if we see repeated cancellations for the same CD we will ask you to remove it from your Have list for now.
If there's a specific version I want, I'll buy it, but if I don't care, LaLa is a better option. I've come to realize that a lot of LaLa users are using it to rid themselves of the versions they've upgraded, rather than try selling to used stores, which only pay pennies on the dollar nowadays.

I always send a message to the sender to please include cover art and CD tray liner. I've only had one who didn't so far, but they let me know up front that they didn't have it.

Only thing worse than the people who whine about back art on lala are those who whine about getting folded back art.

I have received a few CDs with only the front booklet art. Are there any websites available where you can download/print out tray inserts?

Oh god, I just had someone send me a message in which they carefully explained how I could enclose the back art without folding it, with the tone of someone explaining something to the mentally deficient. I wanted to tell them to fuck off, but I refrained. If I ever send anything to him/her again, I will fold it several times into one very small square.

Presenting LaLaWatch 1.1 for Windows

See this post for information about the original release.

Changelog:
Version 1.1
- Can now attempt to automatically pull the cookie from IE or Firefox
- Fixed a bug that could cause LaLaWatch to lose network connectivity after about 12 hours of continuous operation.

To automatically pull the cookie from IE or Firefox, change the cookie setting to "IE" or "Firefox" (minus the quotes) respectively. Note that this requires that you checked the "Remember me on this computer" box when you signed into LaLa.

For those that want a WAV file (or whatever) to play when you can ship a CD, the easiest thing to do is create a batch file, and set "Action to take" to the batch file. For instance, you might have this in C:\lala.bat:
"C:\Program Files\Winamp\Winamp.exe" C:\Music\llama.mp3
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" http://www.lala.com/frontend/action/havelist

Then set "Action to Take" to "C:\lala.bat"

If you don't click OK in the "Hey you can ship" message box, then you won't get another message until after you've clicked OK.

Bleh, I think I might be done with LaLa. I hardly ever get back art any more, and the discs I received almost always have scratches. Three of my last four I've had to mark as unplayable. I don't have much left to get rid of, so it isn't too much of a loss, but it is still disappointing. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

I have slowed down a lot. More so from the fact I have not added much to my have or want lists. For every time I get a scratched up disc or one without all the art, I get a disc like the Science Of Sleep soundtrack in perfect shape. You have to take the good with the bad I suppose. I am much more selective with what I add to my want list now, usually discs that I know will cost me at least $10 in retail or will be harder to find.
