Placebo 'Med's album/ no US tour(?) :(
I am quite surprised to note that it doesn't look Placebo has any intent or time for a tour of the states for their latest album: 'Meds'. An album that I think is one of their strongest compliation of songs. Was there a mini tour or a one-off gig in NYC/LA? (did I miss it) or has any fan heard if any dates in 2007 are in store?

Placebo is usually like that aren't they? Sleeping With Ghosts, they took a while to tour for the states I think also. There haven't been any US dates for for Meds as far as I know, but there definately will be eventually.

They come to the US about every 2-3 years. Depending on when they release an album. OMWF the only one off pattern (they toured SA/Mexico).
FYI There is no official forum on Placeboworld. BSH went bye bye years ago. The closest they have is the myspace which is overseen by their American label Astralwerks.
I found some dates on the She Wants Revenge myspace a few days ago and posted them on about 5 fan forums/LJs. With some searching from other fans I think we now have every date except for 2. One of which is rumoured to be in Mexico.
They will be co-headlining (<--some debate on this) with She Wants Revenge for a bulk of this tour. With, so far, 2 solo headlining gigs at San Diego and Las Vegas. Mind you none of it has been confirmed by Astralwerks except its supposed to be 16 dates. But I wouldnt wait on Placeboworld or Astralwerks as if you know Placeboworld often posts things (like radio broadcasts, tv appearances) with maybe an hour before they happen. Considering LA went into pre-sale already earlier this week, they seem to be following this pattern.

Finally after much messaging and embarrassment (half of the dates were already posted on SWR's myspace, venue sites and ticketmaster - they weren't going to post it until Friday!) they posted the dates via a myspace bulletin.

Yeah lots of fans complaining from your area, Canada and pretty much all of the Southeast got missed this time around. We thought they might play DC as they played at the 9:30 the last time. But looks like they are upgrading their venue sizes with this tour with SWR.
Again not confirmed but what we hear from SWR's end is Placebo are co-headlining, with possibilities of switching who plays first between cities. We're pretty sure once SWR hits DC, the other bands listed will be regular opening bands. Placebo is 10X bigger than SWR everywhere else so I think it's why they get co headliner vs those other bands. Then they get about 2 weeks off before continuing the tour in Europe.
Also remember Justin Warfield of SWR is an old friend of Brian's and was on the track Spite & Malice. A lot of fans are hoping he and Placebo will perform it at some of the concerts. Even if you hate SWR, you have to appreciate the rare opportuity it would be if they did Spite & Malice. They only performed it once at Reading I think.
Maybe you can take the train to Philly or NY for the show. Lots of kids are flying into Vegas from all over the country too.

the only way Placebo could have been worked into the current tour schedule would have been either have headline a show on the 5th
POLLSTAR listing:
Sun 11/05/06 The Black Angels
Sun 11/05/06 The Black Keys
Mon 11/06/06 The Black Angels
Mon 11/06/06 The Black Keys
two shows?! ... come on, Placebo on Sunday night would have sold out the venue.

so... after my complaint to astralwerks, here's there response:
Astralwerks doesn't book the dates for our Artists, our Artists book their own dates via their Manager and a Booking Agent. Why they booked Detroit over DC when DC has has sold about 3 times as many records as Detroit might boggle most fans, but there are alot of factors that prevent artists from hitting certain cities on a tour.
1. Can't find a venue around that tour date, or a venue the size they need to play. Placebo is booked in Europe right after this US tour and they had to fit in as many US dates they could before heading back to the UK. Booking happens months in advance and with the number of bands out there wanting to tour it sometimes is hard to find a venue space that has an opening around a particular date. A band with the popularity of Placebo would need upwards of a venue that can hold 1000+ people and those venues are far and few between in most major cities.
2. Consideration of the time it takes to get from one tour date to another: Placebo is on a bus not on a jet traveling from gig to gig. They're going from Cleveland to Philadelphia in 2 days driving time, which is a hell of a long drive. Fitting in a DC show would make the need to drive from Cleveland to DC in 1 days time, which would have been impossible.
Unfortunately they aren't doing this to shun their fans I'm sure it's all out of lack of time and necessity. Ideally it would be nice for them to come back a second leg and hit the cities they missed the first time around, I'm sure that's not out of the question.
Regards,
Astralwerks
~
again, not only was this a scheduling problem, but the closing of Nation (a venue that was close in size to Philly's Electric Factory), really hurt the chances of this band getting booked here in DC.

I'm glad they replied back to you. They've become alot more responsive ever since they were notified SWR posted most of the info and tickets were being sold. They still suck as they needed to be more agressive with Virgin/booking agent/managers so we don't have one day's notice for a presale or in the case of LA, that would of been > 2 weeks after it went on sale.
Anyway, one of the girls emailed to find out this whole co-headlining thing. I would be cautious about skipping SWR's set as I've read rumours that SWR is planning something at the Greek. Could be having Placebo join in (they did for Eagles of death metal up in I think Seattle in 03). There could be more surprises on other legs of the tour too.

I am beyond stoked. Thanks to a very special person who works somewhere around, below or above Placebo's U.S. label, got inside word on the pre-sale tix for the HOB San Diego show. Logged in, bought tix, got raped by TM (as usual)... but shit, I'm going to see Brian and Co. in October for the first time --so it's all good.
On another related note, I can't understand why a song like, "Infra-Red" isn't being spun on every major alt rock station in the country. It's by and large a far superior track to 75% of the crap currently in rotation. So sad. Placebo ownz.

Placebo on Tour!
I've been listening to Meds a lot... and just got this release:
>PLACEBO – FIRST U.S. TOUR IN THREE YEARS!
CO-HEADLINE TOUR WITH SHE WANTS REVENGE
Brian Molko’s witty self-deprecation and heartfelt choruses make for stylized darkness with a power-pop spirit. – Rolling Stone
This could well be the masterpiece they’ve always promised to make. – NME
Over the past decade Placebo have slowly but surely grown into one of the biggest and best rock bands on the globe. Meds is Placebo’s first studio album since 2003’s Sleeping With Ghosts, which went Top 10 in the UK and sold 1.65 million copies worldwide, and firmly re-established the band's foothold in the USA. In that time Placebo have gone from strength to strength selling out arena dates all over the world and playing to a sold-out Wembley Arena to celebrate the release of their 2004 Singles Collection, Once More With Feeling. This summer has seen them play over 30 major European festivals and headline outdoor shows.
Recorded over an eight week period at London’s RAK Studios, Meds marks the return of a very confident band that after 10 years together keep growing in stature. For this album the band returned to their roots, stripped away the layers and got to the heart of their songwriting smarts. This they’ve achieved with the help of producer Dimitri Tikovoi and legendary mixer, Flood (U2 & Smashing Pumpkins).
Live, the band has become one of the most powerful and engaging rock bands on the planet, their trademark power trio augmented by additional guitar and keyboards and a state of the art light show. As the originators of a uniquely dark alt-rock style, the idea to tour with She Wants Revenge was born out of mutual admiration, with both bands having recently been involved in remix exchanges. Placebo’s Stefan Olsdal remixed "Tear You Apart" under his Hotel Persona moniker, while Justin Warfield of SWR is currently working on a re-mix of Placebo’s current radio hit "Infra-Red".
