D12 only had 6 members also, not 12.

Proof was by far the most talented member of D12

I'm sorry, too, if my opinion shocked and/or offended anyone. But if you'd seen people's lives destroyed as often as I have by this lifestyle (though I hesitate to call it a lifestyle if you're born into it and are raised to know or tolerate nothing else).

I left a $31 an hour job with full insurance in Detroit for a $19 an hour job with minimal insurance in Dallas/Fort Worth....and I am sooo happy. No arson Devil's Night fires with no firemen to put them out; no crackheads/dealers on EVERY corner, RUNNING UP TO YOUR CAR at a stoplight; no Mayor with his personal (and unqualified) HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS as his cabinet/posse, on the taxpayer's tab; no giant fist statues as a symbol for others to "look up to"/visit as a "tourist attraction".

So I moved to TEXAS, of all places.

Don't get me wrong; I hate rednecks and racists, but they're everywhere. But only one city in the world is built to house 2.5 million, yet houses less than 850,000 as of the last census. Detroit, and everything it has come to stand for, is a sewer. People are moving out FAR FASTER than anyone moves in. Soon, it will be a dead city; a first for America!

This rap "artist" perpetuates everything that is bad about the city, role or not. And I do not believe they are playing "roles", either. Because you never see them in any kind of "normal", a.k.a. non-gangsta/rapper/hip-hop, role. Al Pacino? I loved Scarface, and own it. Loved it far more before it was (poorly) airbrushed onto a million ghetto t-shirts. HE WAS playing a role.

Contrary to what a prior poster wrote, Middle Class America does NOT want people like this around. Maybe Middle Class KIDS, but the adults all hate them. It's mostly the legions of low-to-lower-middle-income consumers who buy this garbage.

Before anyone calls me a racist, please know that I have been in serious relationships with many women, of many different nationalities/races, including black women (I am white, if it matters). I am, first and foremost, a realist.

They wish death upon each other all the time; listen to the "lyrics". Several rappers moved up a notch today and are happy about it.

zombiezilla your comments here and in the DVD Beaver thread simply suck. I think you need to perhaps be quiet on the forum for a while.

I had the fortune of meeting Proof at the 8 Mile event. He was a bright, funny and articulate guy who had high hopes of a solo career and film career. It's sad that someone ended his life.

I wasn't really a fan of D12, but it's still shocking (and sad) to see him die.

I just found out about it on MTV.

Geoff, I know you meant this as a compliment, but "articulate" is a bit of a loaded word in this context... Much of white America mistakes black cultural differences and rejection of white English for inability to speak articulately. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but it's definitely a word that makes people wince... like saying a Mexican person is "hard-working."

As a black woman I didn't wince. Geoff was merely describing Proof that's all.

I was never really into D12, but this is still sad news. Can anyone recommend some D12 or solo songs that illustrate Proof's skill?

Rest In Peace, Proof.

My comment wasn't a black thing, it was a human thing. The man had a way of expressing himself in casual conversation which was both impressive and entertaining. When we spoke he talked about how he hid things in his rhymes in 8 mile. ''I'll Punish Rabbit or Obsolete Future' = PROOF

Sorry if you were offended by my comment, they were nothing but from the heart and had nothing to do with Proof's color/race.

He's not the first rapper from that evening who has been killed, but he was someone who made an impression on me... Felt the same way I did when Dimebag Darryl (Pantera) got shot. I simply don't understand why people turn to guns to express whatever evil or hate is inside.

I can't wait for Eminem to sample a Eric Clapton song for the inevitable tribute song.

Yeah if it wasn't Eminem or Bizarre I could never tell which one was rappingin D12. I did like a few tracks Proof had on a cd called Promatic a few years back. I think that was him.

At least now I know "articulate" is a racist word.

wth? Reminds me of when they took a poll and found out Native Americans weren't really offended by the tribal Mascots, it was just white guys telling them that they were--either that or I guess you watched Chris Rock's "He speaks so well" bit.

btw I'm mexican and I can think of a million things worse to be called than "hard-working."

Watched Fox 2 Detroit news last night, they say Proof pulled out a gun first and shot a guy twice before one of his boys shot Proof in the head,it started because of a heated argument between both group's,there saying Proof was not the victom but killed over self defence, this is going to get ugly.

Hope this doesn't turn into another Greedo/Han Solo situation.

Look for the guy with the big grill(teeth)with the Tigers hat on,they show him alot when the boys are rapping at the underground club but he is only in the film for maybe 5 minutes total.

On another note Proof formed D-12 while Em was recording the SlimShady LP,they where best freinds since Highschool.

Em lost his 2 best freinds Ronnie and Proof and his Mom has cancer, things are looking ugly right now for Em,I hope he make's it through.

But, hey, it was an accident when he pulled the trigger...he thought it would shoot blanks...after all, he was only "playing a role". But you've got to give him credit; his "street cred" is now through the ROOF!

Ridiculous.
