Depeche Mode North America tour dates announced

Depeche Mode will begin its first North American tour in more than four years Nov. 2 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Billboard.com can reveal. The five-week arena jaunt will run through a Dec. 9 show in Fairfax, Va., and includes a rare club show Nov. 26 in Las Vegas. The Raveonettes and the Bravery will alternate as opening acts.

The tour comes in support of the veteran electro/pop act's new Sire/Reprise album, "Playing the Angel," due Oct. 18. First single "Precious" will be released Oct. 3 internationally and is due to impact U.S. radio outlets shortly. In the United Kingdom, "Playing the Angel" will include a DVD with various audio mixes, the "Precious" video, behind-the-scenes footage and an in-studio performance.

The upcoming run precedes a 2006 European tour, which begins Jan. 13 in Dresden. According to a spokesperson, 520,000 tickets have already been sold for the outing, which has been marked by instant sellouts. It will close April 2-3 at London's newly renovated Wembley Arena.

TripWire, take a drive down to Atlantic City. They're play at a venue that only holds 3700 people. Odd choice IMO since it's between MSG and the Patriot Center (which holds 10,000). Atlantic City is the smallest venue on the tour (save for the one club date). This stop will surely sell out in no time given the size.

Daytripper, that's a great idea, since it's a weekend, could make a weekend trip of it with my girlfriend, probably cheaper than MSG also.

I wonder how this is going to turn out...

Depeche Mode ticket download plan
Depeche Mode fans will be able to buy advance tickets for the band's US tour when they download their forthcoming album from iTunes.
US fans who pre-order Playing the Angel will receive a password giving them the chance to purchase up to four tickets for select American tour dates.

The advance tickets go on sale on 20 September, four days before sales open to the general public.

The North American tour kicks off in Fort Lauderdale on 2 November.

The electro-pop band, best known for hits like Just Can't Get Enough, Everything Counts and Personal Jesus, last toured the US in 2001.

Apple iTunes Music Store began taking orders for the new album earlier this week. It will be released on 18 October.

The promotional campaign, between Depeche Mode, Apple iTunes and Ticketmaster, runs until 26 September.

The band did a similar deal in 1998, enabling fans who had pre-ordered The Singles 86-98 to purchase tour tickets in advance, but this is the first deal of its kind involving downloads.

"Depeche Mode is once again pushing the wire for its fans and utilising cutting edge technology to lead toward a better and faster way for fans to access new music and concert tickets," said Jonathan Kessler, Depeche Mode's manager.

WHAAAAAAAAT?!??!?!?! They aren't coming to the Twin Cities? I went to see 'em at their last show at the Xcel Energy Center, it rocked. Darn, now I gotta drive to Detroit or Chicago or something.
