With the thread of Mars Volta opening for System of a Down, and people thinking the Mars Volta don't sound right to be opening, I just want to know, what is the weirdest/oddest/surprising Tour you have heard of or been to with openers and/or co-headliners "not matching"?

1.) Sum 41 opening for Motley Crue 2005...Hasn't come to my town yet.

2.) Projekt Revolution. 2004...Saw it. Although it was meant to have every time of genre of music on one bill, it was weird going from The Used to Snoop Dogg to Korn.

How about just the oddest show in general? I saw Mojo Nixon and the Toadliquors open for Dread Zeppelin back in '91.

I just remembered another one. My girlfriend saw Stevie Ray Vaughan open for Men At Work.

I actually think it was The Monkees, circa 1967.
That's a tough one to top....

I saw Ween open up for GWAR. Strangest combination that I've ever seen.

I think They Might Be Giants opened for Hootie & the Blowfish.

Beastie Boys opened for Madonna in 1985

I saw Hootie and the Blowfish open for Toad the Wet Sprocket. This was when Cracked Rear View was well into its upswing of popularity and it when Toad the Wet Sprocket took the stage the crowd was yelling stuff like "Bring Hootie back!" the whole time.

I've seen:

1.) The Stray Cats open for Stevie Ray Vaughan
2.) Blind Melon open for the Rolling Stones
3.) The Alarm open for Bob Dylan

most of the RS peers are in nursing homes or dead.

On topic, the strangest one I ever went to was Less Than Jake opening for Bad Religion. I love both bands, but think of them as two distinct musical styles.

I saw Joan Jett open for The Police on the Ghost on the Machine tour. Some people might think of that as odd, I dunno.

The Stones traditionally have opening acts who they like, not necessarily who have similar styles. Stevie Wonder's opened for them, as did The Clash, and (I think) Peter Tosh. Normally their opening acts are fantastic, so just be happy about that.

I saw a stop on that tour. I recall being more excited about seeing Jett than the Police. Go figure....

I heard he got boo'd off the stage? Is that real?....I think I saw that on a VH1 Monkees movie...and we all know made-for-tv movies are 100%

Strangest I've seen is Tim Robbins opening up for Pearl Jam on the vote for change tour, I'm like what the h@ll isn't that the dude off Shawshank Redemption. Man that was terrible music

That one doesn't seem all that strange to me.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band opening for Anne Murray in the early 70's.

Stevie Wonder opened for the Rollings Stones at the winterland ballroom in SF.

No! No no no no no! Give me an opening band who is different from the main band. I hate sitting through warmed-over sameness. Like when Public Enemy opened for U2 in '92. Great idea.

There was a great local band here called the Coolies and they played a 500 seater on their last night as a band. They had some high school cloggers open the show. Hilarious.

I saw Weird Al open for Duran Duran in 1995. Very surreal indeed.

I saw fIREHOSE open for the Beastie Boys. I liked both bands, but I can't imagine the whole crowd enjoyed Watt's bass thunder. That's a shame, too.

I also saw a Living Coulor/Suicidal Tendencies/Tool show. That was weird.

I don't think there was anyway that could have been made possible.

I remember yet another one. Back in 1980, Prince opened for The Rolling Stones. He was not well received.
