Will Smith - Music Discussion Thread

Anyone else addicted to the new Will Smith song Switch? I hate rap music but for some reason I'm really hooked on this song and I wish the album would come out soon. Am I crazy, or has this made it anyone else's "guilty pleasures" list?

I'm not a big pop-rap fan either, but I personally think it's one of the worst singles he's ever put out.

worse than "Summertime"?

worse than "Parents Just Don't Understand"?

I haven't even heard the song, but I find that hard to believe!

I'm definitely not the biggest Will Smith music fan, but those songs are definitely classic and probably two of his best IMO.....

Not that he was the greatest rapper in the first place (although I do really like his early albums, especially Homebase), but ever since he decided to steal Method Man's delivery/rhyming style (very poorly, I might add) for songs like "Wild Wild West", "Miami" and "Gettin' Jiggy With It" he's been horrible. A streak that appears to continue with "Switch".

I just heard a freestyle he did on the Tim Westwood show (BBC Radio 1) over the "How We Do" beat, and I almost fell out of my chair, Fresh Prince brought the heat!!! Even Westwood was shocked......check it out if you get a chance...

Bingo! Will Smith is rap music for people who don't like rap. You can recognize these people because they use words like "jiggy" five years after it was cool to say them, which was never.

A fun drinking game is to take a shot every time Will says A. The name of the song, B. Woo!, C. Uh!

Summertime was a great song. Jiggy not so great. I think it funny how Will is the clean rapper then makes Bad Boys II.

I'm taking it you've never seen Six Degrees of Seperation, Bad Boys, or Enemy of the State......

This would also get you pretty loaded if you were listening to DMX.

I'm not a Will Smith hater. He's OK. But Switch, horrible.

Will Smith's Tim Westwood "How We Do" freestyle lyrics:

Mike check, and uh
Don't stop, and uh
Tim Westwood doin it good (Holla)
Big Will, doin this thing, ya'll
Big Will, ya'll
Check it

For years I've been tryin to rip rhymes
And get mine
And spit limes
Hot like lava this time
I don't got a sitcom to bother with
Or a time conflict with my sci-fi hits
I'm concentratin on makin hits
And I'm contemplatin each statement's wit
And I'm fittin 'em
Line by line
Teeth from grittin 'em
Tryin to find a perfect rhyme to scheme
I'm dreamin
About ya'll gleamin doubt
He's back from actin, he's creamin out
How he practice rappin, now he's devout
Every album track packs what he's about
In the past he'd pass with passion
Old fashioned
Boldly mashin
Totally crashin
Words up in a disorderly fashion
But back to lab and guess what happened
Ka-oom! Whoo-wee!
Dude's resilient
Fresh Prince was hot
The movie's killed him
Wait! Hold up! Stop!
You can rebuild him
Lock him back in hip hop
While dude's not filmin
Shocked by the film and the TV money
Went from scenes with Uncle Phil to scenes with Sonny
It's hard to break free from a guaranteed twenty
But it's done so come see me MC, honey
Like that ya'll

Gotta love the Eminem "Lose Yourself" reference...

Sigh...guess I'm alone on this one...again! I have what my co-workers have deemed a horrible taste in music.

This song is terrible. Total crap.

Sounds like a rip-off of Stagga Lee's song "Roc Ya Body", which is NOT a good thing considering that song sucks penis.

He mentions "back to the lab", like in Eminem's "Lose Yourself" song:

When he goes back to his mobile home, that's when it's
Back to the lab again yo

Maybe it's not a big reference, but it stood out to me.

Um... maybe it's not a "freestyle" after all??? I just listened to the first track on the album: "Here He Comes", and it's the exact lyrics I typed up earlier listening to the supposed "freestyle" rap...

Music wise, it's been all downhill since Summertime.

yeah I realized the same thing after listening to the CD - which BTW surpassed any expectations I had for this album (which were very low to begin with). He switched his flow a little and making a few more introspective songs, I'm a fan of this album.
