Micheal McCary(Boyz II Men) what happened?

SHAWN STOCKMAN: Michael McCary has officially retired from the music business. For those of you who may know some of his history, he has a serious back ailment. He's had it for about 4-5 years and it basically took its toll to the point where he couldn't really perform or do that things that were really required of him to do. So he's made the decision to be at home with his family and he even opened up a restaurant ... It's just the three of us right now and the slot has been open for Mike. Once he gets his stuff together and is able to do the things that he needs to do, he'll return

Doesn't this statement sound like a contratiction from one of the memebers of the group? In the first sentence he says, "officially retired from the music business", which generally means, one is not coming back. Then the last sentence he goes on to say, "Once he gets his stuff together... he'll return."

Weird...anyone here know what happened with the group?

You mean, like Michael Jordan "retired"...?

And...what happened to the other Boyz II Men thread you started asking basically the same thing?

Boyz II Men

While Mike was the one who was famous for talking during their songs, he also had an amazing Bass voice( an actual true Bass) and was an amazing singer. While he mostly was used for harmony, he did on occasion sing lead in a few places...most notably the song 'U Know" for the album "II" in the first verse. Damn great singer.

Yeah - they went away from their bread and butter writers and producers and thought they could write and produce their own stuff....which flopped. That's why they've done nothing with their 2(?) albums since "II".

Actually sleepy, they do use some of their big producers still and are just as good as the songs off of "II" backin 1994(amazing to think its been 10 years since that album).

Here is a breakdown of the songs written by their hit producers/writers after "II".

Album- "Evolution"- 1997

1) 4 Seasons of Lonliness- Jam/Lewis

2) A Song For Mama- Babyface

Album- "Nathan, Micheal, Shawn, Wanya"-2000 (Universal Debut)

None- the group elected to write and produce their own stuff. Don't be fooled two of the members are very good writers, and wrote some very good material (and some not so good)

Best Songs:

1) Pass You By- Written/Produced by Shawn Stockman

2) Know What You Want- Written/Produced by Nathan Morris, but sounds very much like a Babyface produced track.

"Full Circle"- 2002 (Arista Debut)

Here they reunite with their hit producers again, and it turns into gold(sadly not for the whole album). The Boyz decided to go with many different producers and writers who hadn't done much as a way of getting them exposure. Nice jesture, but mostly didn't work.

Best songs:

1) "The Color of Love"- Written/Produced by Babyface

2) "Oh Well"- Written/Produced by Jam/Lewis

"Throwback"-2004 (Koch Debut)

Again, the Boyz decided to go back to having different producers, and sing a collection of soul classics. No Babyface or Jam/Lewis...or ORIGINAL MATERIAL hurt this album. There were some good songs , but no Staple Boyz II Men songs on this one that would have people associate the group with.

I think you made my point that they went away from their bread and butter. Jam and Lewis have lost their touch over the past few years (note Janet Jackson's failure to do anything on the charts lately), and "Color of Love" was essentially a remake because Sam Salter did it a year or two earlier (also produced by Babyface)...that version was MUCH better than B2M's flat rendition. They should have retired after 'Evolution' (one of their best tracks from that was actually "Just Hold On', which was on on import versions of the album--and produced by Babyface also).

If I ever see her nipple, I'll be sure to thank it.
