I liked the 3 singles from Pink's album, but have no idea which. The first single was I'm Coming Up, then the two not-too-pop songs. I also like Toxic by Britney. I also listen to just about all of Lincoln Park's songs on the radio. By the way, I do not own any of these albums.

Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66. Gotta love those cool 60's samba rhythms.

Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. I defy you not to tap your toes.

I have every album of his (Fields of Fire is his best, I think), and I agree with your bafflement about his reputation. Sure, I suppose there's a "vacuous heartthrob" aura about him that makes many men reluctant to be fans, but hell, he makes beautiful music, has one of the most distinctive voices in music, and writes good lyrics to boot.

I'm inclined to echo Trigger's riposte about not giving a shit, and I don't, but the closest thing I have to a musical "guilty pleasure" is Yanni. Mind you, I generally don't like his cornball style, but his song "Santorini" (the version from Live at the Acropolis) is simply stunning.

A couple of years ago I burned myself a cd with Christina, Britney, and Mandy Moore songs on it. BTW, I'm in my 30's.

I also still like quite a bit of the "pop" music I grew up with in the '80's. Breathe, Level 42, Howard Jones, others.

Well, you don't have to believe me... none of my music tastes have ever been all that popular, so if anything - I've felt bad about saying I don't like a particular musician... Dave Matthews or Elvis or the Beatles or Grateful Dead or whatever. It would usually depend on the person I'm talking to I guess, but for the most part I just don't give a crap what people think of my music taste. If I'm talking to someone who is into punk music, I suppose my admitting to liking Green Day would inspire some comments about how much they suck or how they are sellouts... or going further, saying I like Emo would get some people on my case while saying I like hardcore and screamo would get other people on my case. I don't really mind and I just like what I like. Telling them I like the new Britney Spears song or the new Gwen Stefani song would get less reaction out of those people. Explaining my music tastes would probably draw blank stares from people who are more into mainstream music. It's rare that I find someone who I can talk music with because I like some things in most genres of music, but then I don't really like alot of the popular choices within that genre.

And as I said - this dates back as far as I can remember... When I was in jr high and high school, I liked mainstream stuff like U2 and some pop stuff they would play on the radio, but at the same time I would be into crimpshrine and sleep and monsula and admiral and whatever else. Since I don't really follow this forum much in terms of music taste, I can't really say what would be embarassing...

I can say that if someone makes fun of me for liking one particular band or song and all they like is Nu Metal, I really couldn't care less about their opinion. And nobody's opinion means more to me than my own. If someone is going to judge me on what music I listen to, then it's not really someone I care to know.

Well, according to my co-workers I have the worst taste in music ever. Rather than listing all the music I like while others mock, all just rattle off some that make even me cringe a little....but I still love!

Pink: Oh My God
Aqua: Barbie Girl and others
Bloodhound Gang: The Bad Touch
Peter Cetera: The Glory of Love

I too like Air Supply though for the longest time I thought they were women. I also like some Neil Diamond, Chicago, & Journey. I also take a lot of shit for liking Hootie & the Blowfish though I'm not sure why.

Are you just talking about Styx?

There's some good songs on there.

Jane Wiedlin, Kay Hanley, etc.

Review by Heather Phares
The original soundtrack to Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont's live-action, big-screen adaptation of Archie Comics' Josie & the Pussycats brings together the talents of, among others, Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go's, Counting Crows' Adam Duritz, Letters to Cleo's Kay Hanley, and the production team of Babyface and his wife, Tracey Edmonds. Hanley provides the voice of Josie (played by Rachael Leigh Cook) on the Pussycats' ten songs, which include chugging, slightly punky power pop tunes like "3 Small Words" and "Spin Around." Meanwhile, Babyface's quintessentially smooth, polished sound comes to the front on "Backdoor Lover" and "Dujour Around the World," both by Du Jour, the film's boy band and the Pussycats' main competition for airplay on the radio and MTV. Impressively — though not really surprisingly, considering the talent involved — the soundtrack manages to pull off both the Pussycats' bouncy rock and Du Jour's pre-fab pop with equal amounts of authenticity and humor, making it the perfect complement to the film's witty and affectionate update of one of the cartoon world's first girl groups.

Okay here's everything:

When I was 10-14 I liked disco, Captain and Tennille, CW McCall, Barry Manilow, KC and the Sunshine Band, ABBA, the Beach Boys and the Carpenters.

Then I got into New Wave/Punk and forgot about them.

I must admit to some nostalgia the last few years. I picked up a few greatest hits discs including CW McCall ($1), KC and the Sunshine Band ($5-played twice), and the Carpenters. Mrs. Pusser couldn't believe I was playing the Carpenters disc-I blame PBS and the docu they just aired.

I've also picked up a few from ABBA as well as their DVD comps.

The Beach Boys I got back into strong about ten years ago after getting some cds from the CD club.

I also listen to power pop/Beatlesque pop and some would think that's bad but I don't care.

I wouldn't think most people would agree, even if it was just a kneejerk reaction to the title. I like the album a lot, personally, but I dig vaguely-punky-power-pop and female vocals. I also really, really like the movie, which no one else on the planet does but me.

I'm guessing we're about the same age, and with the exception of Barry Manilow - eerily similar musical progressions, indeed.

Took my daughter to see Scissor Sisters last night, and they are a "flamboyant" pop/disco/dance act. Quirky, weird, fun (a hip cover of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb) and for some would probably fall under the classification of "guilty pleasure" if they had to explain to anyone why the CD was in their car.

Like I care what anyone thinks.

Adam--hey, there's nothing wrong with liking the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack. Kay Hanley's cool, and obviously, Jane Wiedlin is. Didn't Adam Schlesinger (of Fountains of Wayne/Ivy) co-write some of the songs, too?

Well, I like 21 of those songs.

They're right, though. Donna's "MacArthur Park" is a LOT less cheesier when it's part of the 17 minute "MacArthur Park Suite".

And, compared taking the version of "the Candy Man" found on the Willy Wonka soundtrack into account, Sammy's just doesn't compare.

He wrote "Pretend to Be Nice" and produced "Shapeshifter", "I Wish You Well", "Real Wild Child", "Come On", "Money", and the rework of the "Josie and the Pussycats" theme.

Its power-pop pedigree is pretty nice -- Jason Falkner (formerly of Jellyfish) on "You Don't See Me", Anna Waronker (that dog.) on "You're a Star" and "I Wish You Well", and yeah, as mentioned, Adam Schlesinger, Jane Wiedlin, Kay Hanley, Matthew Sweet...

Well.. mine that I want to confess to include:

Toxic - Brittney Spears. I can't stand her voice and looks, but something about this song is well, intoxicating.

Miss Independant - Kelly Clarkston. Hated the whole manufactured singer thing due to American Idol.

Beautiful - Christina Aguillera. Touching song and video
Oh, and Genie in a Bottle by her as well.

I think thats all I can think of at the moment.

I'm fairly young and people laugh when I tell them I like 80's music.
