Past the 1980s, don't think too much of em. When the Scorps had Uli Roth, they really kicked ass though!

Dokken was great up to mid 90's when they lost it (IMO). Dysfunctional is when I basically gave up on them
Scorps were great in the 80's. Lost me with the 90's ballads and experimental stuff BUT regained my interest with this new cd.

The Scorpions: Old school metal, great shows that would give most young bands today a run for their money, Legendary.

Dokken: Great hair band, better than most hair bands from back then. George Lych is a great guitarist.

and oh, Dokken has more hair than The Scorps.

Dokken has released some great albums : "Back from the attack", "Tooth and Nail". You should also check the first Lynch Mob album (Dokken's guitarist 1st project).

Two great bands from the 80's. Both had good songwriting and were good live performers.

The scorpions, i recently fell in love with this band all over again with the release of there latest album "unbreakable" my opinion it's the best hard rock "metal" album of 2004.

Dokken was my favorite band for a loooong time. Never saw them in concert until aftr the 2nd time George Lynch left them. Finally got to see him at a Dallas Gutar Fest (not the Eric Clapton Fest). It was almost like a religious experience to me.

Scorpions are good to, but for some reason Klaus Mein's (SP) vocal irritate me with large doses.

Haha, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that loves these 2 bands.

I'll spare you all the details of my love for these 2.

Unbreakable is one hell of a CD (I saw the Scorps in concert on Nov. 9) and I wish I had a chance to see Dokken way back when (I'm only 19 )

The Scorps have always been a great band. ( I loved their appearance on Insomniac).

I always liked Dokken, but saw them live opening for Aerosmith in 87. They were really bad. Their live album was great, though.

Explain, my man...did Don just sound off? Or the entire band?

I've been listening to the solo work of George Lynch and Don Dokken all day...I miss those days .

Where would you all rank Rudolf Schenker, Mathias Jabs and George Lynch on the greatest guitarists ladder?

George Lynch has always been #1 for me. Maybe not as technically good as Steve Vai or Joe Satriani, but his tone and technique always impressed me. It is very apparant that he is gone when you listen to recent Dokken albums.

I saw that tour...Dokken was bad but that was because the power went out early...and they were done for the evening. This in New Haven CT.

I liked the band somewhat...some songs were great-some were awful, but Lynch had a great sound and could definitely play that guitar.

Back For The Attack was by far the best Dokken album. From the scorps I always like the earlier stuff like In Trance, Fly To The Rainbow, Virgin Killer, etc.

What prompted this topic? Why those 2 bands?

Dokken has always been one of my favorites. I have everything they've done CD-wise.

Mey George Lynch last December (now I have that Iced Earth song in my head) at a show he did. He was a really great guy. Just wish I had gotten a better picture with him (Yes, I'm the geeky-looking one with the Dokken shirt, and NO, George was not wasted there, he just had his eyes closed):

Haha, well, Dokken and the Scorpions are my 2 favorite bands - I just didn't want to state that in the opening topic. I wanted opinions, input, etc. from all sides...

Cool picture! - George looks BUILT (in that picture at least).

What do you guys think of Don Dokken's solo work?

I've been listening to Up From the Ashes alot lately...

There's a good reason for that. George Lynch has been heavily into body-building the past decade or so.

I love that album. I wouldn't say "solo work", since he really only had that one album though. Just "solo album".

two of the best bands ever. much better than all the "nu" metal bands now that stand in one place and mumble really slow at thier shoes about how depressing everything is. F**k Chris Cornell and Staind. they are the worst.

For those of you who said they haven't done anything good since the 80's, I invite you to check out Dokken's "Erase The Slate" and The Scorpions "Unbreakable", two of the best metal albums ever.

Agreed, both are very refreshing metal albums.

It's unfortunate that they are getting *****ed over in the promo department here in the States...(Scorpions, that is)...

yes, it really annoys me that Scorpions and Tesla both come out with two of the best CD's in years in 2004 and get zero airplay.

The last Dokken album seemed like Don Dokken solo to me. And it wasn't any good

I'm a huge Lynch fan. His work in Dokken is amazing but his solo stuff is even better (most of the time). Pretty much all the instrumentals on Sacred Groove are absolutely mind blowing. Also if you haven't heard it, the Lynch Mob REvolution album is very good as well. Lynch re-records a bunch of Dokken and Lynch Mob tracks with Rob Mason on vocals. Very heavy versions of some Dokken classics.

It was the entire band. Thinking more about it, it was probably a sound system problem (Aerosmith was amazing). They sound awesome on Beast from the East.

I wonder if that's the vocalist he had when I saw him in concert.
