Analyze Music Lyrics

I have to analyze a song for one of my classes...Which artists have "deepest" lyrics ? Which artists would you recommend that I do?

hmm deep lyrics, try pink flyod, dark side of the moon (money is the best example) and the title track to "wish you were here"

if you want to perhaps show that hip-hop isn't all mindless "bling-bling and booty" bullsh-t, perhaps you could choose songs by Mos Def, Mobb Deep, or KRS-One.

The Glass Prison - Dream Theater
The whole song is about alcholism yet they never even mention drinking, alcohol, or anything along those lines. Brilliant.

Change of Seasons - Dream Theater
Song is about the drummers mother dying, yet they never mention death, dying, sickness or anything of the like.

These two in particular are a nice change of pace from the norm. These two you actually have to think to catch all the metaphors since they don't just lay it out there for you. They do that with a lot of thier songs.

Tool. The Aenima album in particular. Goto a Tool fansite and see how many pages upon pages are filled with people over analyzing the lyrics.

It's already been said, but the first thing that came to my mind when I read the topic post was "Tool".

Why do you need "deep" lyrics? Why not analyze the cadence of lyrics? Where stress falls with the beats, how the sound of a word emphasizes a feeling, etc? Unless yr assignment is to interpret lyrics -in which case, this angle could still work- I don't think you need to go on a scavenger hunt for depth (as if that couldn't be endlessly argued anyway).

My vote was for tool also haha, but that's getting a little redundant. Just go buy a Christina Aguilera record and analyze some of those DEEP DEEP lyrics.

I'd say choose a song that means something to you and go with it.

But if you really want a sugestion; 'Particle Man' by They Might Be Giants would be a fun one to analyze (as would just about any of their songs).

Here's the lyrics and if you scroll down you'll find what some people think it might mean: http://www.leoslyrics.com/listlyrics...4%2F1s1ne28%3D

And here's another very interesting interp; http://www.linkstew.org/noid/920.html but you might have to read the book Flatland first to get it.

Look no further than Korn. His is an example of their lyrical genius:

Right now
I can't control myself
I ****ing hate you

You open your mouth again
I swear I'm gonna break it
You open your mouth again,
Oh God I cannot take it

Shut up, shut up, shut up or I'll **** you up
Shut up, shut up, shut up or I'll **** you up
Shut up, shut up, shut up or I'll **** you up!
Shut up, shut up, shut up or I'll **** you up!
Shut up, shut up, shut up or I'll **** you up!
Shut up, shut up, shut up or I'll **** you up!

Right now
Can't find a way
To get accross the hate
When I see you

Right now
I feel it scratch inside
I want to slash and beat you

Right now
I rip apart the things inside
That excite you

Right now
I can't control myself
I ****ing hate you

I ****ing hate you [x4]
I ****ing hate you (Shut up!) [x3]

Shut up!

Too funny
I never saw what anyone saw in this horrible horrible band. Almost as bad a Limp Biscuit.
