OOP bootleg or no?

I was going through my CDs and noticed a few OOP that I have, and a couple I never repurchased (after auto break in) and was wondering the legallity of copies of these, or a copy of these if you own a reissue that is missing a song or two. This is to me is that grey area that if it was out, it would be purchased. Is there any "case law" on this, or is this something the music industry ignores in their citing of piracy?

This also brings up reissues. I own almost the entire Cure catalog, missing Mixed Up and some older singles, and they are about to reissue their old cds with bonus material on them. This would mean I would have to purchase their catalog a second, most cases third (cassette, cd, reissue) and a few a fourth time. This sucks to shell out all this money on material I already own. Wouldn't a trade in model be great for previous owners. Or at least a option to get the bonus for less $$ or download with your owned CD.

yeah, it would. i currently have every full length cure album released, plan on buying the box set in 2 weeks, and was annoyed to find out that they plan on re-releasing the albums with a 2nd disc of material (some or most of which will not be in the box set - i think).

i wish Fiction would release those 2nd discs separately or as their own box.

i hate reissues. and shame on foo fighters for doing the same thing.

I remember when Rykodisc put out the Bowie catalogue back in '89 they were offering free trade-ins for people with RCA discs.
Well, at least for Ziggy Stardust. I took 'em up on the offer. I have no clue if the RCA CD's are collectors items or not, but it was a great deal to me.

OT Footnote. I remember when the Bowie RCA CD catalog went out of print. I went to the local Record Hole and stood in front of the Bowie section, debating buying every RCA release in those blister packs and keeping them sealed to sell later. Though there was a small window of time later when those might have been worth good money, I probably would have lost money on the deal by holding on to them (the Ryko releases killed that idea). I think there was one Ryko Bowie 24k gold CD that was pretty rare.

There's also plenty of RCA discs that got no bids or a lot less. Regardless, I'm glad I'm not the type of music fan who is obsessed like that. Why would anyone want an inferior disc like that? No extra songs, crappy artwork and inferior sound to Ryko. Weird.
