Lemmesee - a fun amalgamation of punk and reggae influences... or endlessly-reheated adult contemporary McMusic. I think I'll go with The Police, please.

aaah .. Sting, the master of the one-note melody. He was more digestible with the edgy sound of The Police.

This was hard...i'll tell ya why:

the Police? no explanation necessary..

Sting? Dream Of the Blue Turtles & Nothing Like the Sun kick MUCH ass. Unfortunately, not much after that does..

sooooo...

I went with Sting [on the basis of those two discs and perhaps half of the Soul Cages..].

Yes, I agree totally. Nothing Like the Sun is classic, I've listened to Be Still My Beating Heart alone an ungodly number of times. I'd have to say it's probably one of my top 10 single ever (the rest of the album as well as D of the BT is great, but after that spotty at best.

The Police, c'mon! But, the first two Sting solo albums are close to my um, beating heart.

I guess the absentee ballots from aging soccer moms have yet to be counted, eh? This really is a no brainer. Even though I hated Synchronicity, the first two Police albums still hold up well, as far as I'm concerned.

Aren't Sting and Elton John the same person now musically?

I'd say Police, but I still give Sting props for some great solo stuff. The writing on "Soul Cages" is extraordinary.

The comparison with Dame Elton John is just wrong.

I like both, but have to give the edge to the The Police.

That's an insult to Elton John.

Not really a fan of either, but I choose The Police over Sting.

The Police. Sting lost his balls after the Police and became to mellow. (His balls being Andy on the right, and the larger nut, Stewart Copeland on the left)

Even with just 4 votes for "SOLO", this poll is much, much closer than it has any right to be.
