There would not have been a Nirvana if The Pixies never existed. Kurt Cobain was asked in 1989 what he thought was the best album of the 80's. Surfer Rosa were the only two words that came outta his mouth.

The guitar riff at the beginning of "River Euphrates" sounds like ALOT of the songs from Nirvana. Anyone else notice this?

Here is the quote that Rivero alluded to in his post. It's from a 1994 Rolling Stone Inverview:

"I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. I was basically trying to rip off The Pixies. I have to admit it."

Here are some more quotes regarding his influences:

"When I heard the Pixies for the first time, I connected with that band so heavily I should have been in that band -- or at least in a Pixies cover band. We used their sense of dynamics, being soft and quiet and then loud and hard."

"'Teen Spirit' was such a cliched riff. It was so close to a Boston riff or 'Louie, Louie.' When I came up with the guitar part, Krist looked at me and said, 'That is so ridiculous.' I made the band play it for an hour and a half."

The interview can be found here.

Did anyone pick this up yet? Does Best Buy or Circuit City carry it? If so, how much was it? I placed my order at DDD for $13.91, but it hasn't shipped yet.

Yep, and when Grohl was asked by Guitar magazine what his favorite album ever was, he replied "Trompe Le Monde":

"A lot of Pixies purists would probably pick 'Surfer Rosa' cos it was produced by Steve Albini, and they still seemed to be having fun, but for me 'Trompe Le Monde' is just incredible. I love it for the way you can hear the band falling apart, getting scattered, shooting off in a million different directions. Because of that it's their most extreme LP: the noisiest, the quietest, the poppiest, the weirdest. Gil Norton said he hated working on it, but it's because of that LP that we used him on 'The Colour And The Shape'."- Dave Grohl

Did anyone pick up the DVD today? I came across it at my local Tower, but it wasn't on sale. I'll check a few other places tomorrow and see if I can find a better deal.

I received my DVD about a week ago and finally got around to watching it. I'm disappointed in the concert they decided to put on the DVD. It would have been nice if they would have put a latter show on there. Not that it's a bad show, I just would have liked to see some live songs from all of their albums. I also have a hard time hearing/understanding what the people are saying in the "Gouge" part of the DVD.
