I have to admit that I'm not really offened by any of these groups on this list.

I like Primus, Yanni and Live but I understand that Primus and Yanni are not for everybody; but why Live is on the list is a mystery to me.

Hiro11 08-18-03 11:02 AM

Skinny Puppy is/was a fantastic band that released at least two classic albums. Same with Primus. Therefore, this list sucks.

It seems like to compose this list, they just chose a bunch of "safe" acts that almost no one would argue with them on (Vanilla Ice) and a few thrown in to get arguments and reactions (The Doors).

I don't know why they put Live in either. I saw them at the Rolling Rock Town Fair 2.0 and while the lead singer said some goofy cliched rock things, they are a hard working band that trying hard to earn the audiences respect. Plus they are also from the Central PA area which is where I'm from :).

das Monkey 08-18-03 12:45 PM

I don't have the list in front of me, but if I recall, they blamed Live for the popularity of Creed and said they're copying U2, neither of which seems accurate. Even though I like some of the groups they listed, I can understand why someone would single them out for a list like this; however, I don't see why they'd go after Live. The author must have some personal issues with their music or something. Of course, anyone who thinks Toad the Wet Sprocket is a stupid band name needs his head examined anyway.

Yeah, but at least Blender gave us all 50 at once...

:grunt: :D

Oh snap! No he di'n't!!!

Don't blame me ... just following the instructions of our friendly Administrator. After seeing how much I rambled about each choice, though, posting all 50 at once likely would have crashed the forum.

I like the Doors and Oingo Boingo, and some songs by Primus, but other than that, I have no objection to anything on that list being on that list. My list would certainly include Styx at or near the top (along with Foreigner and REO Speedwagon) but other than that, no big objections here...most of those groups/individuals would be pretty high on my list as well.

My only other objection is that overall, the list includes way too many "safe" choices like Michael Bolton--at least they didn't put him first, which would have been really wimpy, but it seems to me if you make a list you need a lot more arguable choices.

Flashback 08-18-03 03:17 PM

One of my favorite live singers, David Coverdale, made the list with Whitesnake. :(

They get nailed for falling into the 'hair band' stigma when Poison, Bon Jovi and Ratt don't even make the list?

haliedoeshebron 08-18-03 04:34 PM

Manowar?

that's just plain wrong. and they picked "sign of the hammer" as the worst album. feh.

I have to agree Poison should have made the list, and where is Simon & Garfunkle!

F For Fake 08-19-03 08:47 AM

A good list of awful bands, except that I agree that Creed should be Top 5, and Brooks and Dunn should be #1, for the "Boot Scoot Boogie" alone. To steal from the Dead Milkmen, "If there is a God in Heaven, know that band will burn in hell."

Ky-Fi 08-20-03 04:28 PM

Wow, that's a great list. I would probably remove Bob Geldof and the Doors, but I was nodding my head to most of the rest.

7. Asia

21. The Alan Parsons Project

32. The Hooters

43. Mike and the Mechanics

I don't know about some of the others, but I fail to see how any of the above could be considered "worst". Asia created some nice music, and Parsons some thoroughly proficient synth-pop. I only know the first two M+tM albums, but they are both splendid.

And the Hooters: not long ago I bought the band's compilation CD and was blown away. "And We Danced", "Satellite", and the note-perfect remake of the classic "Time After Time" are marvellous; "Brother, Don't You Walk Away" is beautiful, several others are very good, and there isn't a throwaway song on the album. I look forward to buying their individual records.

I guess it depends on the kind of music you prefer.

dick_grayson 11-10-04 03:53 PM

The Doors?

foofighters7 11-10-04 04:05 PM

These dumbasses are just a bunch of kids who dont know good music if it punched them in the face.
ELP was a great original band that really paved the way for more great bands. Their songs were completly original, and as musicians they were top notch.

The Doors on the list? Thats insane!
Putting ELP just shows there ignorent, putting The Doors just shows how stupid they are.

Kansas, Primus, LIVE. All are good or at least decent bands. I have a few friends who put LIVE as one of their favorite bands.
I love LIVE as well.
There are several more on there that doesnt really deserve it either.

In all honsesty, there is something positive that can be said for every one on that list. Well, except for Vanilla Ice.

C'mon - Richard Marx isn't bad. He certainly has been successful and made some very catchy music. As has Howard Jones and Nelson. I admit being a fan of, and having many CDs from them. Just as a lot of us do from the others on the list.

Lame list, IMO. I would like to know their criteria.

And, BTW, where is Milli Vanilli?

agreed... all of these artists/groups have tons of fans all around the world... Blender wishes that their magazine sales could total any of the artists on that list

I will never say the Doors are a top 50 worst anything....but I can't stand them with a passion...so i don't mind ;)

fumanstan 11-10-04 08:10 PM

I love these lists, simply because they always generate such harsh words when people see bands or singers they enjoy on them. And naturally, followed by angry words about the magazine because obviously they know music better then anyone else :)

Anyway, groups on the list i don't mind.

Oingo Boingo
Creed
Live
Goo Goo Dolls

sebastianv50 11-10-04 09:47 PM

I don't think Blind Melon should be on the list.

Link_182 11-10-04 09:53 PM

How is it that Nickelback didn't make this list?

Glad to see ICP at the top, I can't stand them. Hate to see parents bringing their kids into my store to buy their records.

But seriously, Blender has to stop with these lists. Every month it's a list and most of the time they are way off. Why do I even bother to pick up this mag....

Oh yeah, theres usually hot chicks inside!

I would still like to see an explanation on the above quote.

The only group on the list that I actually LIKE is Jamiroquai. But there's a number of them on there that I don't have any problems with (and therefore, don't deserve to be on the list).

But seriously...where's Nickelback? Slipknot? LIMP BIZKIT!?!?! This shit really does read just like one person's own "50 groups/artists I don't like." Jerks.

custom001 11-11-04 10:36 AM

Awww, c'mon, I like Blender. I think they're funny. Especially the picture captions.

Falc04 11-11-04 02:07 PM

Early Alan Parsons, and early Dan Fogelberg is excellent music. Also, Mike and Mechanics had a lot of good recordings over the years.

But, I guess for the most part, they've identified a lot that I'd agree with.
