Fountains of Wayne

I guess the subject says it all :), but there's an article at http://www.billboard.com/billboard/d...ent_id=1834514 with a little more about the deal and their upcoming album "Welcome Interstate Managers"

jonnyrocks 03-11-03 08:35 AM

Yeah, I read this last night. It's very exciting! And it's about time, too! FOW rocks!

Captain Harlock 03-11-03 09:50 AM

Come one come all..cause we're having a ball...we're just making some calls to strangers.....

Seriously I was begining to wonder about Fountains of Wayne. I'm glad to see they'll have a new album out soon.

Now if we can only get another deal for Matthew Sweet...

SAShepherd 03-11-03 10:11 AM

I ditto everything Captain says. (Except for what I assume is the "Crank Yankers" theme song. Could care less about that... ;))

Gdrlv 03-11-03 10:44 AM

Excellent...I've been waiting for a new album from these guys for way too long.

remjim 03-11-03 11:50 AM

Yea! Its about time.

Buford T Pusser 03-11-03 11:31 PM

Read this article last night. LOVE this band!

Grimfarrow 06-10-03 10:22 AM

Fountains of Wayne's new CD!

Forget the Radiohead/Metallica/Jewel CDs! Get the new Fountains of Wayne! It's called "Welcome Interstate Managers". I really liked Utopia Parkway, and this is even better! "Stacy's Mom" is just hilarious.

Here' s a nice new article on CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Musi...yne/index.html

And a collective review from metacritic - current score, 93/100!

http://www.metacritic.com/music/arti...statemanagers/

Yes, I'm a fan :) Can you tell?

Gdrlv 06-10-03 12:20 PM

I can't wait to pick this up over my lunch hour. I love FoW.

DJLinus 06-10-03 01:21 PM

I just recently got into them and picked up their two prior CDs (which I love). Just came from Best Buy to pick up "Old School" and almost got the new disc, but BB wanted $14.99. Add tax to that and it's a bit much for a CD. I'll order it from Deep Discount CD or someplace and wait a few days for it to arrive. It'll make the anticpation that much greater.

Drexl 06-10-03 02:45 PM

I've been listening to the new album for a few weeks thanks to an "advance copy" that I do-er, received. I'll be picking up the CD very soon.

SAShepherd 06-10-03 02:47 PM

Can't wait to hear comments from others here. Love the band -- first two albums were great. The reviews for this one seem very positive so far -- will definitely have to pick up this up in the not-too-distant future.

slop101 06-10-03 05:23 PM

Never heard of 'em - and I thought I was down with hip, new music.

This is their first release in 4 years, so whatever "hip" cachet they might have had has probably faded forever. But they might possibly be the best pop band on the planet.

I'm not surprised. I think the most coverage they got was when the MTV Movie Awards nominated Titanic for best picture, and for its award montage, MTV played "Sink To The Bottom" over it.

Oh, they're funny guys, aren't they

LiquidSky 06-11-03 07:39 AM

Excellent new CD! I purchased it last night, listened to it twice and cranked it up on the way to work this morning.

I'll be seeing them live on July 5th!!! :)

Adam Tyner 06-11-03 07:41 AM

The local indie shop didn't have any copies at all for sale. That struck me as odd. I guess I'll have to stop by Best Buy or something.

slop101 06-11-03 09:14 AM

Okay, I've heard "Sink to the Bottom" before. Whew, I'm not as out of it as I thought.

Jeraden 06-11-03 09:36 AM

Anyone know the cheapest place to buy this? It's 13.99 at most retail stores and can't really find it much cheaper at the main online stores either.

Gdrlv 06-11-03 11:02 AM

I've listened to the new disc a few times now. I love it...possibly even better than Utopia Parkway, if that's possible. Favorite songs so far..."Mexican Wine," "Bright Future in Sales," "Hey Julie," and "Bought for a Song."

I really hope their tour reaches Las Vegas sometime this year.

remjim 06-11-03 11:34 AM

Picked it up yesterday at Virgin with the new Radiohead. I haven't listened to it yet but played Sick Day for my roommate last night (my fav FOW song) when we were talking about great lyrics. It's about time they put put something new!

Great CD! Stacy's Mom's got it goin' on!!!
:D

Drexl 06-11-03 05:49 PM

They just finished shooting a video. Rachel Hunter will play Stacy's mom.

mdc3000 06-11-03 07:42 PM

DAMN.... couldn't find this in ANY stores up here in Canada... maybe it's not getting a release up here... guess I might have to import it or something...I'll give it another week...

Tower has it for $9.99 - this week only.

remjim 06-12-03 09:49 AM

So I finally listened to the album yesterday...and I can't stop playing it! I'm actually enjoying it more than the new Radiohead at the moment. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Is it just me or is Adam writing some of the best songs that Oasis never wrote? Supercollider is full blown Oasis circa Definitely Maybe. The same could be said of Ivy's Midnight Sun although I'm not sure how far his contributions go with them (other than playing in the band).

Grimfarrow 06-12-03 02:30 PM

Gosh, this CD is just wonderful! I forgot all of my other CDs whenever I listen to the new FOW (Radiohead who?)

I really like "Fire Island", even though it sounds so darn cheezy (I think that's the intention!). But nearly every song is just perfect pop gems.

Now listening: Hackensack.

I agree. You shouldn't have to listen to a CD 5 times just to convince yourself that it may grow on you eventually (Hail to the Thief).

The new FOW grabs you from the first song and never lets go.....

So, was Red Dragon ever nominated for one of those MTV awards and, if so, did they use "Red Dragon Tattoo?" If not, there's a perfect opportunity missed.

Almost finished listening to the new disc and loving it. I'm such a sucker for a catchy tune.

And if you don't have Utopia Parkway yet and are a member of BMG, they're selling it there for $1.99. Even with their high shipping, it still comes to under $5 (I believe). That's where I got my copy.

My Tower had it for $14.99 and it was out of stock...
Which Tower did you go to? The one in Tustin?

It was $14.99 at the Tower here also.

I purchased mine at Tower and it was $14.99 on sale! :(

Yes, I got it at the Tustin one - maybe the 9.99 price was only for a couple days (I got it on Wednesday).

LiquidSky 06-16-03 07:41 AM

Anyone else going to see them live?

God, I wish. Unfortunately, they're not coming to Vegas. I thought about travelling to LA or Anaheim, but the days of the week are no good for me. Hopefully, they'll schedule a more expansive tour soon...

Gamblor187 06-16-03 07:38 PM

Now that they're signed to a label again, I wonder if there's any chance of a B-Sides compilation. I've got copies of most of them, but I'd like to have an official release with better quality.

I'm working on it. They're coming to Detroit on July 16th. Though I'd normally jump at the chance to see them, I'm seeing Elvis Costello the day before. I'm not sure if I can find the extra cash and the night off work to go see FoW.

California Sex Lawyer....

Buford T Pusser 06-16-03 09:35 PM

The closest they'll be is about three hours. They were here a few months back but I couldn't go. I was NOT happy about that. We'll be on the east coast for vacation but they are playing there two days after we leave.

I just ordered the disc so hopefully it will arrive soon. I'm dying to hear it.

evenflow 06-17-03 11:13 PM

I bought the album this afternoon at Virgin Megastore for $13.99. Awesome album. One of my favorites of the year. Not as good as the new Radiohead, but then what is? (IMO)
Stacy's Mom is hilarious and so is All Kinds of Time. You can't help but sing along to this album. Great summer album.

LiquidSky 06-18-03 07:46 AM

I'm fekking excited that they are coming to Nashville! Once in a great while, a cool band will slip into town :) The Donnas were here a few months ago and really rocked.

auntiewinnie 06-20-03 02:36 PM

I'll be seeing FoW when they play Philadelphia on 07/12. Tix only cost 1/3 of what a paid for Radiohead tix today, and the FoW show will probably be twice as good.

Now if I could only find the new record somewhere. So far I've been to three places and haven't seen it. Tomorrow I need to do a hard target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse in the area.
