Boards of Canada...worth checking out?

Most electronic music and its varied divisions make me either or
--the exceptions are Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, The Orb, early Prodigy, etc. I hear many great things about Boards Of Canada, especially their "Children" CD. Are they truly as good as the hype?

Depending on the Eno and Twin you like, you might like BoC. They are ambient to the extreme. There's only so much BoC I can take before I fall asleep. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them and ambient very much, but don't turn on BoC expecting to want to dance.

I recommend you listen to some Groove Salad (http://www.somafm.com/) and see if you like it, before buying any BoC. If you like it, I definately recommend Geodaggi.

Thanks for the link...I listened to some samples and like what I hear. These guys can clearly compose and the sounds they use have texture and are interesting. Perhaps your comment about small doses is correct.

Absolutely, Boards of Canada is worth checking out. I think they're one of, if not THE, top electronic act out there right now. Music Has the Right to Children is just mindblowing. Geogaddi, while not quite up to the level of Children, is also excellent in its own right.

After you check them out, check out Monolake, Jega and Casino Versus Japan for similar melodic ambient textures.
