Jane's Addiction
These guys still rock. I've been wanting to see them since 1992, and I wasn't dissappointed at all. They did a great set list, they sounded great, and put on a great show. You got to love the strippers. The see saw was a killer.
Live was somewhat dissapointing. They are doing a toned down show. They have couches on stage and pretty much just sit around and play mostly their more mellow songs. I didn't really care though, as I'd seen them a couple times before and they were awesome then.
The Stereo-MC's sucked though. They got a horrible reception from the crowd. I mean the crowd that goes to see Jane's Addiction and Live, probably isn't going to dig that hip-hop/techno/funk type of music that they do.
At any rate, Jane's Addiction was easily the best show I've seen, and my fiance said the same thing, which really surprised me as I figured the strippers would hinder her enjoyment of the show somewhat.

they came by my town 2 weeks ago. I'm not a fan though, I just work the shows. The set is pretty awesome. They had millions of dollars of flying pig brand laser lights, and an insane number of 3000 watt stobe lights. I wonder how many epileptic seizures they have caused. Besides a big main stage, there were 3 dancing stages, as well as the mini stage behind the soundboard. I think we had 10 spotlights total in the house. Their roadies were really cool though. We loaded 5 semis and they were gone within two hours of them getting off the stage. And the dancers were something. A huge improvment over the sesame street dancers we had the night before. I had the privledge of being the security escort for one of those robed godesses and I have the thong to prove it (don't ask)

How did you get burned with Kettle Whistle?
It was much better than that overpriced Live and Rare disc I picked up years before KW came out. "Ooh, Three Days unnecessarily split into two tracks? Tracks taken directly from the band's studio releases? Only $25? I'm in!"
I actually really liked Kettle Whistle. I'd never heard any of the unreleased tracks before and I thought they were really good (Even Maceo).

Please give us a reveiew when you get it. I used to be a huge Janes Addiction fan, and am very curious to hear if the album lives up to past standards. I have only heard the new song once, so I really can't give an opinion on it, yet.
I will not get to hear the new CD, unless I download it or buy it used. Yes I know it is a little slack to download and not buy it new, but I will not help RIAA pay for thier lawyers, so they can sue innocent college kids, who have no $$ to defend themselves. Nor will I help contribute to the campaighns of polititions, who are out to trample our consumer freedoms(that effect more than the music industry), which is what we are doing when one buys a new CD. Very, Very little goes to the artist, if anything. I only write that last bit in hope that you guys and your friends will consider this the next time you go out and buy CD's. It is time the consumer fight back. It is more than just about file shareing now, and it time everyone become more informed as to what it going on, and join the cause. Once again sorry to go off the subject.

I'll be picking it up.
I've only heard "Just Because" and it's a great song IMO. I was worried what they're new stuff would sound like sicne they had't put out a new album since the early 90's.
I knew they still "had it" after seeing them a couple of years ago, but I still had concern that the new songs wouldn't sound like Jane's Addicition. Glad they proved my concerns unfounded.
Can't wait to see them at Lollapalooza on Aug. 1 as well.

not, Alanis Morissette's bass player now.
The current Jane's bass player "was" hers and they switched.
Kind of weird but oh well.
They're on the cover of August's SPIN magazine and there's a
16-page uncensored history of the band with interviews.
It's especially nice for those that have followed the band since the 80's because that's what most of it is about.

What is the deal with Eric A and the other members? I have never heard what the riff between him and the other guys was when they did the Kettle Whistle "tour".

Perry and Eric started having different visions for the band, and then Eric, in a drunken state, made out with Perry's girl. Perry has never forgiven him. Eric almost came back to the band, but that fell through.
To me, he's the missing link. "Strays" is a good album (began listening to it in May), but it doesn't stand up next to "Nothing's Shocking", "Ritual de lo Habitual" or even their XXX debut.

perhaps eric was pissed that he wrote the music for most of the songs and got 12.5% versus perrys 62.5%
if i were perry I'd cling to the girl story too.
the dvd has 2 videos, 2 live songs some interviews and a making the vid of feature
(im pretty sure anyway)
check out xiola.org for more info.

Just bought it and listened through once. I really enjoyed it. Not a stinker on it in my opinion. I would think that it's what most fans would want to hear from them (as opposed to the extra stuff we got on Kettle Whistle).
Perry's voice is exactly the same, and Navarro sounds great. He really has some great leads on songs like "Suffer Some", and the whole album just has lots of bits that remind one, stylistically and compositionally, of older JA songs.
The disc is a little over 46 minutes long. It also has a "making of" for the "Just Because Video", which is only about 2.5 minutes long, and doesn't really discuss anything regarding the making of the video.
I bought the version that comes with the DVD ($14.88 at Target, CD only is $9.88). It comes in a shrink wrapped form fitting silver-opaque plastic bag. It reminds me of what they put comic books in (in the 90s) to sell multiple copies of the same thing so you'd always have one "mint in the bag".
I'm at work, so I haven't seen the DVD yet.

I don't think the dvd is worth it if it only has
a couple of videos and a couple live songs.
Who cares.....for $19.99 at Best Buy when the album
is $9.99 at the same place.
I guess you could price match or something.
I enjoy the album a lot. It's better than expected.
They were smart not putting some clogged 70 minute thing
out with 8 or 9 minute songs.
