Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
The Microphones - The Glow, pt. 2

I've just been prepping for exams and Les Savy Fav (!) on Thursday night.

Verbena - Souls For Sale, Into the Pink, La Musica Negra
Killer Mike - Monster
Killing Joke - Killing Joke
Amon Duul - II
Field Mob - From Tha Roota to Tha Toota
Louvin Brothers - Satan Is Real
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell
Wild Dub - Dread Meets Punk Rocker

I stayed far, far away from the WFMU Record Fair. It would be a terrible idea for me to go to a place like that. How did you dig the show at Luxx, Steve? Some friends of mine were there and said Mr. Elvrum was his usual awful (live, anyway) self.

What is this disc? Is it good?

As for me, I'm in the library working on my copyright law take-home exam whilst listening to my MP3 player (kinda ironic, huh?).

When I get home I imagine I'll put on the discs I bought last couple of weeks, some of which I have yet to fully digest:

RJD2 - The Horror
Sigur Ros - ()
The Stone Roses - The Remixes
Inspiral Carpets - Revenge of the Goldfish
Inspiral Carpets - Cool As **** EP
The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God
Sixpence None the Richer - Divine Discontent
Everday Sunday - Stand Up
DJ Green Lantern - Invasion Part 2: Conspiracy Theory
Quannum MCs - Winter/Spring 2003 Mix CD: DJ D-Sharp's June Bug Session
DJ Risky Bizness - Six Dollar Mix Vol. 1 (Vegas to Chi)
Cody ChesnuTT - The Headphone Masterpiece
Royal Ruckus - s/t

I'm also going to make a 2 disc comp of my grandma's favorite Beatles songs for her birthday.

DJLinus:

It's a Japan-only release. All new material, dedicated to his Japanese fans. Good stuff. Hard to compare to his earlier recordings since it's got a little bit from each, but it's closest (in mood and production) to 100% Fun.

It's pricey ($40), though, so it's hard to recommend to anyone but diehard fans.

Edit: There are also no plans to release this in the US, so factor that into the decision to pay the high price.

Looking forward to picking up "Electric Version" tomorrow...

How is the Fountains of Wayne?

I'd heard about the Matthew Sweet CD, but hadn't heard any reviews, so thanks for your comment. Since you say it's closest to "100% Fun," I'd at least consider getting it...

Oh, and as for me....

Yo-Yo Ma, etc. - Appalachian Journey
U2 - Achtung Baby
Marah - Kids in Philly
Connells - One Simple Word
Jason Falkner - Can You Still Feel?

The first 9 songs are untouchable... brilliant, poppy bliss. After that there's some weird genre experiments - a country tune, a semi-disco track, ELO-style ballads, and one very annoying track (Peace and Love). Some of these are cool, but they could have cut them out and the record would've been perfect. As it stands now, I think it's a little long, but I'll give the second half a chance to grow on me.

I hear ya. It "helped" that I was only looking for CDs. The WFMU table by itself was worth the price of admission -- bought 3/4 of my stuff there.

Interesting club. I actually kinda liked the show, as much as it's possible to like a guy playing bass and singing...and that's it. The sing-alongs (yes, more than 1) were fun, as was his stage presence. At least I thought so. I only stayed for a few Dub Narcotic SS songs. Pretty sure that's all you need. Snuck off to Pete's Candy Store -- a tiny bar -- for K., which was great. Fans of that kind of stuff should definitely try to catch her when she goes on tour, which is apparently soon. This was a warm-up gig.

I'm going to the Microphones here in 4 weeks. Gonna try to convince him to play guitar.

I've been spinning one disc over and over:

Neko Case - Blacklisted

Has to be one of the most amazing recordings I've heard in years.

Others on my iPod that are getting play this week include:

Supergrass - Life on Other Worlds

Ennio Morricone - The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

and

Johnny Marr + The Healers - Boomslang

I've been listening to the following while not working or studying for midterms:

Wire - "154"
Brian Jonestown Massacre - "Bravery, Repetition, and Noise"
Uncle Tupelo - "Still Feel Gone" reissue
Wedding Present - "George Best Plus"
Pitchfork - "Eucalyptus"

Is Enon worth seeing live? They're playing here soon, but it's with (ugh) The Faint.

Before venturing out to Queens for the Matisse Picasso exhibit at MoMA, I hit Kim's Underground and Other Music on Saturday. My haul:

Trans Am - Surrender to the Night
Pole - 45/45
Gescom - Iss Sa
Opiate - Sometimes
isan - Lucky Cat
Marumari - The Wolves Hollow
Sutekh - Incest Live
Manitoba - Up in Flames
Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto - Vrioon
Styrofoam - I'm What's There to Show That Something's Missing
Adult. - Anxiety Always
Amon Tobin - Piranha Breaks
Markus Guentner - Audio Island
Ellen Allien - Berlinette

I've got them all in work with me, which makes the day go by much quicker.
