Re: Best and Worst Cover Songs

I quite like Charlotte Bash's cover The Misfits' "Angelfuck."

For comparison, the original:

^ Always liked this song. Great version of it.

Love the guy but ... doesn't Weird Al seem a little out of place here?

The original is no masterpiece, but that Stewart version and video is an assault.

The Robert Palmer version kept the hook but changed the lyrics.

I bought this huge collection of records a few years ago and one of the fifty or so that I kept for myself was a single of this disco cover of Have a Cigar that I really dig. Warning, it’s very disco.

My favorite cover of that song is by Primus:

I like the Winery Dogs version of Elvin Bishop's Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Portnoy playing pretty mellow and I know a lot of people don't care for Sheehan when he goes heavy, but it's no different than some of Fleas' stuff when he's super active.

It's not that I don't like the Echo and the Bunnymen cover of this, it's just so 'nothing special' that to a lot of people who hear it on the radio, think it's the original Door's version.

I'm a big Mayer Hawthorne fan... and his cover of Lorde's Royals is an upgrade to me.

Completely agree and I love both the Doors and the Bunnymen. A totally mid cover of a great Doors song. But it's one of the more famous tunes by the Bunnymen.

Re: Best and Worst Cover Songs

The Recess Monkeys with their cover of Chilliwack's My Girl (Gone Gone Gone) from the Pre-Teen Telethon for Pre-Teen World on SCTV. Ignore the cheesy graphics that someone added, this was the best quality version I could find. Song starts at the 30 second mark. Bonus Catherine O'Hara intro before that. Enjoy, and send in some money to help keep Pre-Teen World on the air ...

Isn't the Middle Aged Dad Band (or whatever they're called) just a bunch of comedians and other Hollywood types who like to play together? Not sure why Weird Al wouldn't fit.

Re: Best and Worst Cover Songs

I don't know ... he just seemed to be more of a distraction than a fit to me. My impression, anyway.
