I can't think of many covers right now, but off the top of my head here are the good ones:
Howie Day - #41 (Dave Matthews Band)
John Mayer - Wind Cries Mary (Jimi Hendrix)
Johnny Cash - One (U2)

Worst
Vanilla Ice "Satisfaction"

We have a winner.. Who told her she could sing?
And another bad cover, 311(I think it was them) doing Cure's Love Song.
Since when does a great Cure song need a upbeat regge kind of beat in it?

Almost any cover by Johnny Cash is excellent , the best are his cover of Nail young's Pocahontas and his cover of Cat Stevens Father and Son.
All of the Byrds covers of Dylan.

What about Hillary Duff and her skanky older sister (a duet) RUINING the Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed"? It almost erases Jessica Simpson's "Take My Breathe Away" from your mind. Almost.

Goldfinger's cover of The Cure's Just Like Heaven is awsome. Anything by Me First ATGG, especially Leavin' on a Jet Plane.
Finally, My Gay Uncle's cover of Faith Hill's Still the One should be enjoyed by all.

Good:
I'd have to agree with a couple people's opinion of
Ring of Fire - Social Distortion
Bad:
When You Wish Upon a Star - Gene Simmons

surprised no one has mentioned the ruination of "riders on the storm" from creed.
also, you all can shoot me, but i liked love song from 311, and even "take my breath away" from js, even though i am not the biggest fan of her's.

There's an amazing cover of the Pixies' "Gigantic" by a band called Orange out there. Really amazing.
BTW, I'm listening to the Avril "Chop Suey" right now. It's the funniest friggin thing I've ever heard in my life!

Good:
Van Halen- You really got me (Kinks)
Beatles- Rock and Roll (Chuck Bery)
Nirvana- The man who sold the world (Bowie)
Bowie-White light\White heat (Velvet Underground)
Decent:
Dave Edmonds- I hear you knocking (forgot who did the oringinal)
STP : Dancing Days (Led Zepplin)
Bad:
Crow-Sweet child of mine (G n R)
Don't know who the artist is, but whoever coverd Peter Gabriel's In your eyes. What a terrible cover.
Eric Burdon- Paint it Black (Rolling Stones)
G n R- Sympathy for the Devil (Rolling Stones)

A couple that I really like:
JOE COCKER-- "With a Little Help From My Friends" (especially the live version from Woodstock) (original by the Beatles--of course)
MARIANNE FAITHFULL--"Sister Morphine" (although, since she wrote the lyrics for Sister Morphine, maybe not really a cover, technically; she just recorded it after the Stones did)
