The Pixies Remasters
I was just browsing on Amazon and saw that Bossanova, Doolittle, Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa and Trompe Le Monde are being re-released as remasters on 5/20. Anyone know of any additional information, bonus tracks, etc.? Anyone else feeling as old as me when I see some of my favorite albums being re-released?
I'm also wondering with the talk of SACD and DVD-audio if I should hold off on CD remasters of my favorite CDs for SACD and/or DVD-audio versions of them? Anyone else with these worries/concerns?

I doubt that there will be any bonus tracks or anything like that. Pretty much everything that there is has been released. I feel like I've been purchasing more Pixies CDs now than when they were still together.
Actually, that's nowhere near true, but there has been quite a few releases since the breakup.
1. Death to the Pixies (Best of + Live disc)
2. Pixies at the BBC (which is also being rereleased)
3. Complete B-Sides (Not really complete [also being rereleased])
4. Pixies (18 minutes of demos)
That's not counting the multitude of tribute albums that I couldn't help buying.
I probably won't be picking up these rereleases, though, unless the difference in sound quality is really obvious. I don't really have golden ears, so it would probably be lost on me.
Really, though, who am I kidding? I bought Complete B-Sides even though I already owned every Pixies single, so I'll probably get these, too.

Slightly OT: I just saw Frank Black & The Catholics again this past weekend, and if you've tapped out on Pixies purchases you owe it to yourself to catch up on all his post-Pixies albums, Frank rules!

Yeah, I'll actually be seeing Frank Black tonight. I haven't seen him in concert since the Pixies. Unfortunately, I have to pick someone up at the train station, so I'm missing the actual concert, but I'm going to an in-store performance earlier tonight. Should be fun.

I don't have anything from their catalog. I've liked what I've heard and always meant to pick up some of their stuff. This is good news for me. Glad I came late to the party (kinda like with the Elvis Costello reissues).

I'm going to wait and see what the word is on these. My copies still sound fine, so unless it's something drastic, I'll probably take a skip. The Elvis Costello, Clash and Ramones remasters/rereleases have all ready drained my wallet in the past couple of years. So unless it's something exciting...

Regardless of anything "extra", the remasters will be recorded at a higher level.
Has nobody noticed when playing all the studio albums (save Come on Pilgrim) in a changer, you have to turn them up to hear 'em?

Bumping this 2 1/2-year-old thread to ask. . .
Was it ever determined exactly how much better these remasters were over the original releases?
I've got the old Doolittle, and just got the new Surfer Rosa. I'm wondering if I should replace my old Doolittle with the new one--if there's a big enough difference, of course.

I re-purchased Surfer Rosa & Doolittle after my copies were stolen and I didn't notice a drastic change. Even if they are remastered, I don't think that they are worth double dipping.

Yeah, I hesitated to even use the word "remasters," because I'm not even sure if they are or not. Not a whole lot of info online that I've found so far.
I'm sitting here, going back and forth between the old Doolittle and the new Surfer Rosa, and there's not much of a difference in the sound quality at all. That doesn't mean a whole lot, of course, but you never know. I'd love it if I didn't have to buy Doolittle again.

Here's a thread on Frankblack.net in which someone claiming to be from 4AD says that the albums were remastered, but they weren't allowed to release them for some reason.:

My turn to bump this thread.
Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (MFSL) will be releasing a hybrid SACD version of Surfer Rosa:

I preordered it for $25 shipped. A little pricey, but I can't resist.
Edit: Just keeping the link valid.
