Has anyone heard the SACD layer? How does it sound? I'm one of those folks that's really depressed that DVD-audio and SACD didn't take off even on a cult level. Is the music industry really so dead that its advanced formats can't even come close to matching the relative enthusiasm that HD video (HD DVD and blu-ray) has garnered so far?

Come to think of it, I've only heard the SACD layer and I think it sounds really good. I've read some complaints about it, but to my ears it's the best sounding version of Surfer Rosa I've heard (beating the original CD and the reissued vinyl).

I'm still a big SACD/DVD-A fan. I recently set up a separate stereo-only system for my turntable and another SACD player with a pair of large speakers and I've been loving it. I still like listening to things in surround, but the stereo system is a nice change of pace (and the speakers are higher quality).

For those who were interested, it looks like the Doolittle SACD is finished and shipping, as of today:

http://www.musicdirect.com/product/81642

I just placed my order, so hopefully I'll have my hands on it in the next few days.

I'm holding it my hands right now, #123. I'm terribly excited. Now - listen to it at work or wait until I'm home and play it on the SACD player?

the sound improvement of the regular audio is so significant on surfer rosa that i wouldn't be able to resist listening right away!

Has anyone been able to find either of these discs cheaper than $25?
