I heard "Every Breath You Take" by the Police on the radio today. I think it's an absolutely amazing song, even after all this time and 200-odd listens. Creepy stalker lyrics, extremely simple and flab-free construction and a razor sharp delivery from the band.

This song was obviously a monster #1 hit in 1983. It got me thinking: how many great, timeless pop songs have gone to the top of the charts in the last 25 years? I can't think of too many...

I don't think puff daddy has made any of the #1 hits.....

I'm not sure if it hit #1, but U2's "With or Without You" sounds as fresh today as it did in 1987.
