the grammy discussion thread (and a list of peronic formers)
I would like this to be the official thread for the Grammys which airs this sunday night at 8:00 pm on cbs. Here is a list of performers
Bruce Springsteen and the E street band with David Bowie and Elvis Costello (the wording is wierd) but they are doing a tribute to the clash and the passing of Joe Strummer Faith Hill (Cry) Norah Jones (Don't Know Why) Coldplay with the New York Philharmonic Eminem The Dixie Chicks (Landslide) John Mayer NSync No Doubt Vannessa Carlton Ashanti (Dreams) Avril Lavgine James Taylor Yo-Yo Ma Nelly with Kelly Rowland (medely of Hot in Heere and Dillema Here is a listing of the awards that will be on tv Record of the year Album of the year best new artist best rock album best female pop vocal performance best male pop vocal performance best pop vocal album best country album best rap album best r&b album song of the year best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal best female rock vocal performance best male rock vocal performance best rock performance by a duo or group with vocal oh yeah and no host   |
Hmmm...I'd really like to see the Springsteen/Costello/Bowie tribute to Joe Strummer and wouldn't mind seeing Norah Jones and Coldplay perform. Hopefully, there's a list of what time artists will perform...I don't really give a rat's ass about the Grammies...
|
I can't find one yet. Hopefully my list, is the correct order but I doubt it (tv guide)
|
Also, the Bee Gees are going to get the life time achievement award.
|
sorry, typo, meant performers.
|
I would guess Springsteen would go first, since he did at the vmas. also, am I the only one who cares about the actual awards?
|
No host? Wow. That's so common sense it's almost scary.
And from the granny awards, no less. |
If anyone is interested, the awards that are not on tv, will be announced at 6 pm on E! and at 7 on vh1 and mtv and the show starts at 8 pm and lasts approx 3 1/2 hours.
|
Is EMINEM gonna be there??..He skipped the Golden Globes as I recall
.Said something about being too popular!!..Needs to get out of the limelight for a while |
Em's gonna be there, he is to perform in like an hour. So far, No doubt has won best pop song for hey baby, and norah jones won for best pop album.
|
I still don't "get" Norah Jones's music, too slow for me, I suppose.
Faith Hill looked great, but sounded awful, and off key. I think her voice doesn't do "Cry" justice when she sings it live when she tries to higher some upper registers (the tank's empty). |
Faith looked awful, and looked like she would pass out.
|
you know i always hate this about the grammys! they always give an award to the performer right after they perform. it's so obvious who's going to win after a performance. the grammys are notorious for that!
|

I hate how the Grammy's have a pattern...
A. Now performing... (artist here) B. Now an award for best blah-blah... (artist from above) C. Award goes to... (duh... artist from above) First ND then NJ... arrgghh!!!!! |

so far a lot of artists haven't sounded too great. no doubt and simon and garfunkle were awesome. norah jones and vanessa carlton started out a little off. faith hill was awful. james taylor is perfect as always! :)
|
well deserved john mayer!

Switching over to OZ in 5 mins.
|
Maybe that's my problem, I mainly listen to music while driving to work, and if I were listening to Norah Jones, I might be too relaxed and wind up in a ditch.
Is John Mayer really 16 years old? I didn't really understand much of what he was singing during his performane. But it was interesting to contrast his one-man performance with Vanessa Carlton's orchestra-backed performance (that song was fresh 6 months ago, but now, it just went on and on and on....) I did enjoy the duo of Yo-Yo Ma and James Taylor. |

I'm not all that crazy about the remake of Landslide by the Dixie Chicks.
What was with that posse with Eminem when he showed up to collect his Grammy? |
Well, So Far so Good. "No-host" is working out well, but you can tell they've made the show very performance heavy. No complaints.
Did dustin hoffman really need to show up Drunk?? John Mayer And Norah Jones Both Won at least 1! That makes me happy enough! Now if we can jsut get through the night without Avril winning one, it'll be the best grammy's in 4 years. |
