That's pretty damn_cool... April 12 & 13... Interesting... Wonder what that means for the east coast / mid west tour? Figured they would take a few weeks off in March and then hit it again but I didn't expect to see em' out west again... Good for you western folks! (but they better get back this way soon!) That date isn't even listed on moe.org yet...

Caught The Big Wu at Riverstages in Nashville last year, opening for moe., they were so-so... I do like, most of, that one release that they had > Tracking Buffalo Through The Bathtub... Not a bad disc at all but the follow-up disc (forget the name) was way too Phishy at times and way too lame at others...

Particle are making a name for themselves...

And by all means man, trade the extra Phish ticket(s) for moe.

Gdrlv 02-13-03 11:20 PM

I'm not a Big Wu fan. I bought Tracking Buffalo Through the Bathtub, and there's one or two decent tracks on it. I could mostly take it or leave it though. Granted, I've never seen them live...

and about 50 other bands.

Johnny Zhivago 02-14-03 09:52 AM

The Big Wu - You're not missing much... They're average at best live and I use term that pretty generously...

A little early yet but I liked last year's line up at Bonnaroo better... I'm sure there will be many more added... Example, where are the Les Claypool projects and SCI? Should be a grand time though...

Is it just me or are Widespread Panic really overrated?

Johnny Zhivago 02-14-03 09:55 AM

I didn't even know about Bonnaroo last year. But like it says, that is only about half the expected artists.

I like WP, not enough to put any effort into attending a show, or to download any bootlegs, but I'll listen to some of their stuff if it's already on.

Gdrlv 02-14-03 12:21 PM

Last year's lineup did look better (although Sonic Youth is a really cool addition, and so is the Roots). I'm guessing that SCI will be on the list eventually. I'm also betting that Phish won't be playing it.

As for Widespread Panic, they're good at what they do, but I don't really think of them as a "jamband." They've got solos, but they don't do nearly as much exploration as Phish, moe., SCI, etc. They're not my favorite, but I'll go check 'em out if they're playing near me...

Bust 02-16-03 12:03 PM

2/15/03 House of Blues, Mandalay Bay - Las Vegas, NV
1: Stranger Than Fiction, She Sends Me, Crab Eyes, Happy Hour Hero > Seat Of My Pants, Mexico*

I'm surprised that happened but I've VERY happy it happened.

I want to hear this show SO BAD!!

Tom Banjo 02-19-03 08:57 AM

I'm glad I checked out this thread. I picked up Wormwood last night and it is really great. I've been a fan of several jam bands over the years, but I've never really heard that much moe. I went through my WSP phase, but IMO they haven't had a good album since Til The Medicine Takes. Phish was another phase, but I've kinda grown out of them, too. Never heard much SCI, either, except for Carnival 99 that I borrowed from a friend once. Anyway, the closest thing to a jam band that I'm a big fan of right now is Bela & The Flecktones, and reading that moe. has a jazz influence, I figured what the hell, I'll try it. Glad I did. I've only been able to listen to it all the way through once so far, but it really is good stuff, for the most part. Not sure if I like the very first track, though.

Bust 02-19-03 09:36 AM

Excellent news. Pick up at least one of the Warts and All shows as soon as you can. I prefer Volume 2, but you can't go wrong with either.

Also start checking for shows in your area. You have no idea what this band can do until you see them live.

Gdrlv 02-19-03 11:07 AM

I also definitely prefer Warts Volume 2 to Volume 1, though both are pretty damned good.

I'll get my chance at Bonnaroo this summer, assuming I can get tickets. There's 3 different selling periods, so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Johnny Zhivago 02-19-03 02:30 PM

LOL... I prefer Volume 1 of the Live Warts releases... Go figure! I'd also highly recommend checking out their first live release "L" as it sounds really sweet and has some great tracks on it (love Akimbo on this one).

Gdrlv - Any luck over the weekend?

Johnny Zhivago 02-19-03 02:34 PM

Little nod to the Seattle music scene there huh? That's two Jimi covers (Spanish Castle Magic being the other) that they've busted out on this tour...

The 2/15 show must have flat out rocked.

Johnny Zhivago 02-21-03 07:49 AM

2/19/03 Crystal Ballroom - Portland, OR

1: Nebraska, Time Again, Brent Black > Livin' Again, Rise > Bring It Back Home

2: Bullet > Bring You Down, Tambourine, The Faker > Kids > Moth

E: Can't You Hear Me Knockin'*

Not a great show IMHO... Nebraska and The Faker are getting too much rotation... Also getting a tad burnt on Moth.

Fillmore in San Fran Friday/Saturday night, also the end of the west run for now...

Gdrlv 02-23-03 06:35 PM

Bust: Sorry I didn't reply sooner...closed my house this week and barely been online at all. No, I didn't get my tickets yet. I'm pretty good friends with a lot of the people in the Las Vegas Jamband Society though, so I'm not really concerned about it quite yet.

I agree that the Portland show only looks average. I love Moth, but they play it at almost every single show I see. Ah well, at this point, I'd settle for an average moe. show though...

That's cool. The reason I asked is because I jumped on that before I checked my schedule and there is no way I can make it. I'm sure I won't have a problem getting rid of my tickets (which I got already, to my surprise), but I thought I'd ask you first since you brought it to my attention.

I've got 2 for $130. I'll pay to ship them FedEx (well, my work will anyway ;) ) if you want them. Let me know.

Johnny Zhivago 02-24-03 01:00 PM

Cool... Figured the Fillmore shows would be pretty sweet... Nice second set as well, even with Moth showing up... again.

Bust 02-26-03 12:19 PM

I downloaded the 1-29-03 show and can't take it out of my CD player. Wow.

Gdrlv,

Any interest in those Area 51 tix? Do you think it might sell out?

Gdrlv 02-26-03 12:46 PM

Bust:

Sorry, not interested in the tix at this time. It's probably not gonna sell out...not even sure what capacity is to tell the truth, but there was still plenty of room at the show last year (then again, Dark Star Orchestra isn't as big a headliner as moe.). I may be getting a free ticket from a friend. I'll keep my ear to the ground for you though...

Johnny Zhivago 02-27-03 09:26 PM

Wish I could go Bust, I'd be glad to take em'... :( Ah well... Saw your post over at moe.rons... :)

Man, there are some good shows over at etree... Been downloading my fool head off. Anyone heard the Halloween 2000 show? Dark Side Of The Moon for set 1 is pretty flippin' impressive... Excellent sound quality as well.
