If your tastes run more indie . . .

If you dig (mostly indie) hip-hop, HipHopSite.com is excellent.

When I buy dance music, I'll usually go to Satellite Records, Groovetech, or United Records. All have a good selection with decent prices.

But I'm not sure if you're looking for those types of music.

Re: Any good stores to buy new vinyl online?

Count me as a new member to the Vinyl club. of course I had a ton of records as a kid but I didn't buy my first vinyl album until about 5 minutes ago.

With that said, Amazon's shipping is f'n terrible when it comes to music and movies....just horrid. I pre-ordered the new Metallica album and didn't get until 10 days later. Happened to me with another item a few weeks prior as well.

I like all of the recommendations in this thread and will check them out but can someone tell me - is Tower Records a good place to buy from online?

To keep things full circle with this site, Deep Discount is a decent place to purchase new stuff: Vinyl | Free Shipping over $25 at DeepDiscount

DeepDiscount with one of their regular sales and Target with a B2G1 are where I get most of my records these days.

I remember back in the day when deep discount used two different sites (deepdiscountcd.com & deepdsicountdvd.com) - didn't know they were a good place to shop vinyl - thanks for that one.

I don't know that I would say that's a "good place". Just did a quick check on one of the LPs I recently bought, from Explosions in the Sky, which was $25 direct from the label is $36 from DeepDiscount. So make sure you compare prices if you buy from them.

Checked out the links in this thread.

I like www.turntablelab.com and Tower Records (not listed) the most.

Yeah, definitely compare, but I've gotten some fantastic deals on vinyl at Deep Discount, including a couple $80 retail box sets for $20, and a couple KISS albums on vinyl for a ridiculous $6.50. That was close to what I was paying for KISS albums back in the 70s!

I've mostly had good luck with Amazon, but I also try to buy vinyl either directly from the label or from the artists' own Bandcamp page (I've gotten some signed albums and other extra goodies that way, one artist included an embroidered patch and personalized letter of thanks with the album I bought from him, pretty cool!).

Yeah, for sure. I was more surprised to see they were still around.

Sounds like trolling

Amazon

I ordered a record from Greywhale and it seems like they attentive to customer needs when I emailed them though I only bought 1 record.

It's definitely a case by case basis and it helps to shop around. But generally, I've found DD, with a 15% off sale, to be pretty competitive. Using your example, The $36 record is $30.60 and you get free shipping. I buy a lot direct from bands and you almost always get hit with a $5 shipping charge unless you're spend $75-$100...so you're not too far off.

Re: Any good stores to buy new vinyl online?

$5 shipping direct from band would be a pleasure...

This past week - direct from Mike Doughty:

Subtotal $25.00
Shipping $10.82

Last week - direct from Pearl Jam's Ten Club:

Subtotal $44.99
Shipping $12.23
IL STATE TAX $3.57

Single titles from both - the first is 1LP, the second 2LP.

For a band that gripes so much about Ticket Master, Pearl Jam sure ass-rapes you on shipping charges, don't they?

They’re probably using Media Mail too.

Re: Any good stores to buy new vinyl online?

I've bought vinyl from MusicStack before. Search by artist or title (amongst others), it will bring up a huge listing of albums being sold by people all over the world, rated, and the vinyl rated. Plan to spend some time there because the offerings are immense. Shipping is at the seller's discretion.

Most of the bands who I buy albums from directly are in Europe, so I usually get killed on shipping, but it's understandable.

Re: Any good stores to buy new vinyl online?

I've used Merchbar.com, and found eBay store called get_importCDs that has good prices (save 20% on purchases of $65 and up) on records from Europe. I've found that lots of albums that aren't in print here stateside, are in production in Europe.
