Help: Need JAZZ Christmas gift

My father suggested that I get him a jazz CD. He says that he hasn't bought anything from the last few years. He likes more traditional jazz.

I have had luck in the past with Roland Kirk and Miles Davis "Kind of Blue".

Has there been a killer jazz album released in the last few years?

If you have some money to spend, there is a new Miles Davis live box set (I believe 5 discs for around $70) that looks really good.

Not exactly from the last few years, but Dave Brubeck's "Time out" CD is classic jazz at it's finest.

Well, Amazon says that Customers who bought (Kind of Blue) also bought:

Sketches of Spain ~ Miles Davis

Birth of the Cool ~ Miles Davis

Blue Train ~ John Coltrane

Giant Steps [Deluxe Edition] ~ John Coltrane

One of the few jazz CDs I have is Charles Mingus' "Mingus Ah Um". It would fit in well with pre-fusion MD and Roland Kirk.

How about a jazz DVD?

It's a little pricey but I saw the series on PBS (or maybe it was A&E) and it was awesome.

I wound up getting him Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section. Online reviews make it look great, and it's obscure enough that he may not have it.

I know he's already got Kind of Blue, Birth of Cool, and Take Five. I think he has the PBS series on VHS.

Thanks for the suggestions.
