Help: Need JAZZ Christmas gift
My father suggested that I get him a jazz CD. He says that he hasn't bought anything from the last few years. He likes more traditional jazz.
I have had luck in the past with Roland Kirk and Miles Davis "Kind of Blue". Has there been a killer jazz album released in the last few years? |
If you have some money to spend, there is a new Miles Davis live box set (I believe 5 discs for around $70) that looks really good.
|
Not exactly from the last few years, but Dave Brubeck's "Time out" CD is classic jazz at it's finest.
|
Well, Amazon says that Customers who bought (Kind of Blue) also bought:
Sketches of Spain ~ Miles Davis Birth of the Cool ~ Miles Davis Blue Train ~ John Coltrane Giant Steps [Deluxe Edition] ~ John Coltrane One of the few jazz CDs I have is Charles Mingus' "Mingus Ah Um". It would fit in well with pre-fusion MD and Roland Kirk. |
How about a jazz DVD?
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...v=glance&s=dvd It's a little pricey but I saw the series on PBS (or maybe it was A&E) and it was awesome. |
I wound up getting him Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section. Online reviews make it look great, and it's obscure enough that he may not have it.
I know he's already got Kind of Blue, Birth of Cool, and Take Five. I think he has the PBS series on VHS. Thanks for the suggestions. |
