Elton John: 1970-2002

"Elton John: 1970-2002" will be released on 11/11/02, and will contain all his best...but I noticed that the track listing is far from complete! Excluded are the hits "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" (the highest charting Beatles cover of all-time) #1 from 1975, " "Mama Can't Buy You Love" (#9 from 1979 - his comeback hit after "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" in 1976), and his longest-running Number One remake of "Candle In The Wind" from 1997 (14 weeks at the top).

It has been said that a 3rd disc will be included during the first issue of this collection...I wonder what will be on it. ??

His 1997 Candle In The Wind was promoted all along as a one-time single

But why would they exclude "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?" That's retarded! I hate when they leave off obvious material. And what about "Healing Hands?" Not a top 10 hit (#13), but still a hit. I was hoping the 3rd bonus disc would have these two.

Dude, I didn't pay close attention to the thread title (I just read " - 2002") and I thought you meant that Elton John was dead.

There are legal issues with 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' since its a cover song. Perhaps they didnt want to, for could not pay the royalties for whatever reason.

The exclusion of 'dont go breaking my heart' just flat out sucks.

That's silly because "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is already on an Elton John hits collection, so if they could do it once, they should be able to do it again.

"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" is on the 2nd disc, unfortunately - its my least favorite song.

Maybe a mod can add (Still alive) to the end of the title before someone has a heart attack.

This looks like a must have. I saw one of the saddest thing on MTV yesterday Elton John doing a song with Blue (uk popular boy band) Sorry seems to be the hardest word. Couldn't work out why he would want to do this but perhaps it to help the sales of this box set to a younger audience?

Although I have about 85% of Elton's Tunes, I tend to enjoy many of the none hits that are on the first box (i.e.: Cloe, It's Me That You Need, Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding and All The Young Girls Love Alice)

Other great Elton none hits include my favorite Elton John song Tonight as well as:

Come Down In Time
The Greatest Discovery
Ticking
Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters
Chameleon
The Ballad Of Danny Bailey
Salvation
Indian Sunset
First Episode At Hienton
The Last Song
Bullet In The Gun Of Robert Ford
Shoot Down The Moon
Too Low For Zero
I've Seen That Movie Too
Roy Rogers
Skyline Pidgeon
Blues For Baby And Me
Texan Love Song
Madman Across The Water
Burn Down The Mission

...to name a few.

In other words, Elton may have had his hits but the rest is great. I started out with the To Be Continued Box when I was 15 and worked my way up from there.

The box set originally came out in the late 80's and was re-released about 10 years later with no changes that I am aware of. That's why most of the above aren't on it.
