I agree with the original poster. Definitely Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head for me.

Still two months to go and there are a lot of interesting releases we'll see before the year is up. Still waiting for albums by Assemblage 23, Covenant, and Project Pitchfork.

That being said, my favourites so far are:

Apoptygma Berzerk - "Harmonizer"
The Birthday Massacre - "Nothing And Nowhere"
De/vision - "Remixed"
Informatik - "Nymphomatik"
VNV Nation - "Futureperfect"

Best singles of the year:

Angels & Agony - "Forever"
Assemblage 23 - "Document"
Covenant - "Call The Ships To Port"

1. Bright Eyes "Lifted... "(a really long title)

3. Dodgin' Bullets "Earn Your Respect"

Probably some others too, but bright eyes is probably the best I've heard from this year!

I still have to check out that Bright Eyes album. "Fevers and Mirrors" is part of a well-balanced meal, though. Do you think that it is better than Oberst's past albums?

1.Eminem -- The Eminem Show
2.The White Stripes -- White Blood Cells
3.Xzibit -- Man vs. Machine

I actually think those are the only cd's I have bought this year (released in 2002 anyway). I got the 8 Mile Soundtrack today, but haven't given it a spin yet.

It's very similar to Fevers & Mirrors. Not that much difference at all. If you haven't heard it, you should check out the Every Day and Every Night EP, I think it's his best work. Also, the split Home EP Oberst and Spoon's Britt Daniel did this year is great.

I have only heard fevers and mirrors and the new one (both of which I own). I would say that the new one is slightly better, but Fevers and MIrrors has some stand-out songs. I think his voice is better on the new one and number 5 is so good!

My favorite so far has to be the new Underworld album. I was a little worried about Darren Emerson leaving but my doubts have been laid to rest. A close second is Coldplay's newest but in all fairness I haven't been picking up as much as I used to.

As for singles, that new Flaming Lips song (Do You Realize?) is utterly amazing.

hard question. Right now I'm partial to the Donnas "Spend The Night".

The new Hellacopters is great, but I like "Cream Of The Crap" better but that is basically reissues of 7" & comp tracks.

Same thing for Silver Ginger 5 "Black Leather Mojo". It's a reissue, but has a bonus disk.

The Spitfires "Three" album has 5 AMAZING songs on it, but the rest aren't really up to par.

Dillinger Four "Situationalist Comedy" is one of the best flat out punk rock records ever.

The new Wildhearts singles are incredible, but they're just singles/EPs.

The Hangmen's live CD is also an amazing one. Best thing to get from them if you're into dirty, sleazy, garage rock.

So far.

1. Beck- Sea Change
2. DMB- Busted stuff
3. Counting Crows- Hard Candy
4. Bad Religion- The Process of Belief
5. Weezer- Maladroit
6. Joey Ramon- Don't Worry About Me

I haven't got the new Foo Fighter's album yet, and I'm awaiting the new Pearl Jam album with baited breath.

Seems like I'm forgeting an album or two, but I really haven't bought many cd's this year so maybe not.
